New Active Analytics blog: RNG benchmarks in Python vs R (http://www.active-analytics.com/blog/rng-benchmarks-python-r/). In this blog entry, we create convenience functions for benchmarking similar to the microbenchmark package in R and use these to benchmark Python functions for random number generation and compare the outcomes to R. The code and more details are located in github (https://github.com/ActiveAnalytics/pybenchmark).

Random number generation using variadic template functions, and threading in C++11 and R with Rcpp: http://www.active-analytics.co.uk/blog/rng-variadic-templates-threading-cpp11-r-rcpp/

C++11 comes with some nice extensions to the language that makes it more convenient and powerful. We explore three of these features: variadic template function, the new random number generation interface, and multi-threading. We then call these from R and compare the performance with native R functions. The R and C++ scripts are in a Github repository: https://github.com/ActiveAnalytics/rng-variadic-templates-threading-cpp11-r-rcpp

Speed Chain Ladder Analysis with R and C++ using Rcpp: http://www.active-analytics.co.uk/blog/speedchainladderanalysiswithrcpp/

Chain Ladder analysis is in actuarial technique for projecting claims that can be computed using matrices. In our latest blog we speed up custom R code for this by calling C++ functions from R using the Rcpp interface.
