I realize now that photography for me is a hobby and not my calling. And I'm fine with that. Find out for yourself.

On the Blog > Antelope Canyon Magic: http://t.co/HJJm016vmI

Antelope Canyon on the Navajo Indian Reservation in Arizona is arguably one of the finest slot canyons in the American southwest, and certainly one of the most photographed. Although beautiful to witness with the naked eye, these jewels of the desert really shine when a long exposure reveals the light and color ...

Anasazi petroglyphs on sandstone, Valley of Fire State Park, Nevada USA

The Ancestral Pueblo Indians known as the Anasazi (or Ancient Ones) thrived in the Four Corners region between 900 and 1200 A.D. before mysteriously disappearing. Their impressive cliff dwellings have stood the test of time in places like Mesa Verde and Chaco Canyon, and their rock art is a fascinating glimpse into the daily lives of these resourceful people. Read more on my blog: http://ow.ly/JGCjj

Sunrise on Turret Arch, through Windows Arch - Arches Ntl Park, Utah
Best Viewed Large
From the trip at the start of this year.  Wonderful warm morning sunlight breaking through.  I can’t say that the composition is original, though.  When you visit this location, you can climb around to the side opposite of the window where there is a spot that pretty much only one tripod will fit.  I’m sure if the surface wasn’t rock, I’d be putting my tripod in the same post holes as many who have come before me.

Photo Notes: Five frame HDR set, blended back into original photo with HDR image opacity reduced to 60%.  Area through the window used a virtual copy of the original photo that was adjusted a little differently, and then also blended with the HDR image opacity at 30%.

This view of the Grand Canyon comes from the east side near its beginning. I love the contrast of the snow on the rim vs. the barren landscape of the canyon below. The snow is so smooth and soft vs. the harsh details of the canyon wall. Such an awesome place to visit and photograph!

That is cool. The contrast. Would love to see the canyon in the winter.

Canyon View - Canyonlands National Park - Utah
Best Viewed Large
Taken from the trip at the beginning of the year. A cold, but luckily windless, morning at Mesa Arch in Canyonlands National Park. The morning initially started out pretty hazy, with the canyon filled with clouds. As the fog lifted, it revealed this scene. For those familiar with the area, the rock in the foreground on the left is the beginning of the right side of Mesa Arch.

Photo Notes: Two frames focus stacked in Photoshop. One, one for the distant view the other to bring the detail to the rocks in the foreground.
