This bill is a blow to converts and those wishing to convert to Judaism. However, it only effects those who are converting in Israel. It has no effect on the recognition of conversions performed outside of the State of Israel.

A quote from Indiana University Professor Shaul Magid regarding non-Orthodox movements efforts to deal with the intermarriage problem by encouraging non-Jews to convert:

"I do not think it is fair, or spiritually refined to ask the non-Jew to become a Jew in order to solve a Jewish problem."
