I'm watching the 80s Pocket Box Kickstarter count down for Steve Jackson Games and it occurs to me that people may not be spreading the word here on G+.

I love these old micro games, and I have a great fondness for Car Wars. There are all kinds of options but the stretch goals have turned the 200$ Car Wars backer level into an insane value. While I played the hell out of Car Wars, I never owned my own copy. Enough of my friends had copies it never made sense. I think my kids will love playing and with all the expansions we won't need to slow down any time soon! Take a look for yourself!

I'm also excited to see the Pocket Box format return because I think micro RPGs are only going to grow as people realize they don't have time, space, or money for fifteen large books from WotC or Paizo to play for a couple of hours.

RetroRoleplaying's EVERYTHING for $29.95 Bundle -- Take Two
Government Reopening Sale

Last month, to celebrate the new year http://RetroRoleplaying.com/ bundled every game we've published into a single "Everything" bundle for $29.95 (less if you already owned some of our games).* Unfortunately this one week sale was during the US government shutdown and several people told me they wanted to take advantage of the offer but could not because they were not being paid (even though they were required to work in some cases). Now that the government has reopened and government workers are getting paid again, I've decided to repeat the January offer by making this low priced "Everything we have published" bundle available for another SEVEN days. This bundle includes all of our games, paid and pay-what-you-want. Yes, this includes our most popular paid games -- Microlite74 Ultimate Edition, BX Advanced, Microlite81 Advanced Expanded Edition, Microlite78 First Edition Lite Expanded, Microlite20 Comprehensive Edition.

You can get the bundle on RPGNow:

https://www.rpgnow.com/product/262621/RetroRoleplaying-Games-Everything-BUNDLE?affiliate_id=196921

or on DriveThruRPG

https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/262621/RetroRoleplaying-Games-Everything-BUNDLE?affiliate_id=196921

What's the catch? This bundle will only be available for seven (7) days. One week. After February 7th, this bundle will disappear. So if you'd like to get a large number of games for a very low price, you'll need to act fast.

I've decided to split my blog into two blogs. The original RetroRoleplay: The Blog will have posts about the games RetroRoleplaying.com is publishing. My new blog -- Gates & Glamours will focus on old school gaming in general -- just as my original blog did years ago. See the blog post linked below for info, links, etc.

While I'm a member of MeWe, I'm not a huge fan. I'm much less of a fan of MeWe than I am of G+ and some probably remember that I had to be dragged kicking and screaming to G+.

Therefore, I've decided to open an (enhanced) Buddypress-based community as an (yet another) alternative to MeWe and other such places. RetroRoleplaying games will be using this as our main community site for supporting Microlite74, Microlite75, Microlite78, BX Advanced, etc. In fact I already have groups set up for some of these.

There are general forums and any member can start a group for their favorite game or setting, their campaign, etc. Groups can be public or private (or hidden, but that's not generally very useful). Groups can have a forum, a document area where members can work on documents, a image gallery, and a project management area. The Group Admin (i.e. the group creator) can turn these features on and off.

The general forum area (including group forums) are enhanced over standard Buddypress. They track unread messages, allow attachments and bbcodes, etc. The OSR.SPACE rules are short and simple and can be summed up as: "no real world politics or religion, please" and "don't be a jackass".

Shameless plugs for OSR products, kickstarters etc. are allowed. In fact, publisher members can sign up to be able to post plugs directly to the OSR Announcements column on the front page of the site as well as post plugs in the forum.

If the site proves popular additional features (e.g. free classified ads for members? an integrated Discord server?)

OSR.SPACE is a non-profit, hobbyist site. Membership is free. There will be no third party ads. There will be no google analytics tracking. The site should not cost too much to run, so should manage on Onebookshelf affiliate links and donations.

As the linked post explains, the site is not 100% ready, but it is ready enough to accept registrations and let founding members start using OSR.SPACE to test things out and get things started before the official grand opening.

Start 2019 With RetroRoleplaying's EVERYTHING Bundle

To celebrate the new year(1), RetroRoleplaying.com has bundled every game we've published into a single "Everything" bundle for $29.95 (less if you already own some of our games). This bundle includes all of our games, paid and pay-what-you-want. (1) Okay, there is a bit more to it than this. This bundle really only exists because I lost a bet with my BX Advanced Adamantine Edition playtest group. You really have to thank Jim for this sale. His character managed to survive Nobert's Meatgrinder, a one shot adventure with pre-designed characters intended to torture-test the rules as they stand now. I predicted a total party kill. The players said "Wanna bet?" and I did. Jim's mutant thief managed to make it out of the adventure alive -- although with only 2 hits points left and with none of the treasure the party had found. However, even one character surviving by the skin of his teeth was enough. I lost the bet and this New Year's RetroRoleplaying Everything Bundle is the result.

You should set up a few at LuLu for printing.

I would love to have hardback version by of
BX Advanced.

The Expanded Tablet/Digest Edition of Microlite78 First Edition Lite (2nd Edition) is now available in PDF (bonus epub and mobi versions are also included) for $9.95 At RPGNow/DriveThruRPG:

https://www.rpgnow.com/product/260165/Microlite78-First-Edition-Lite-Expanded-Second-Edition-Tablet-Digest?affiliate_id=196921

This Expanded Second Tablet/Digest Edition of Microlite78 First Edition Lite is the ultimate version of the second edition of Microlite78 First Edition Lite (the Microlite20-based version of 1e). It is suitable for digest-sized printing or tablet viewing (pdf, epub, and mobi versions are included). This 1012 page digest-sized PDF includes everything in the standard edition (or in the "pay-what-you-want" version) plus lots of additional new material not included in the standard version of the second edition of Microlite78 First Edition Lite, for example:

* New (Optional) Classes: Alchemist, Commander, Monk, and Necromancer
* 120+ additional monsters
* Over 50 new magic items, including some magic items designed specifically for Microlite78 systems (e.g. items working with the hit point fueled magic system)
* new spells, including 8th and 9th level spells for Illusionists
* Additional optional rules
* rules for using small parties of 1-3 characters in old TSR adventures designed for 8+ PCs
* a sample campaign and several sample adventures (including a walk-through of creating a dungeon)
* more advice (e.g. on environmental and terrain hazards) and random tables for Microlite78 GMs
* more art.

The rules needed to create characters and actually play are short and sweet. Character Creation rules (including race, class, alignment, and background descriptions) are 48 digest-sized pages. The Core rules (skills, saving throws, magic, combat, experience and level advancement) are 22 digest-sized pages. They are written in fairly normal English, not "High Gygaxian". The rules assume that the GM understands the basic concepts of roleplaying games, but provides information for both the GM and the players on the various “old school” styles of play. Microlite78 First Edition Lite games can easily use adventures and material from early editions of the world’s most popular tabletop fantasy roleplaying game or modern clones.

Google has announced that Google+ is shutting down in ten months. I do not know where we will go. I do not want to move back to private forum again. Facebook is out as it is horrible fore actual discussion or even finding a post you made yesterday. Discord isn't anything like a message board, it's more of a chat area with a big scroll back. Reddit is a possibility. I'll be watching what the rest of the OSR decides to do, however.

Started making a Maelstrom RPG character sheet today for reasons I'm still not entirely certain of. Going through my library, saw the logo, and thought "I'm not really happy with that, I'm sure I could throw something together that's more evocative of the setting..." And here I am.
