A new report by the National Audit Office has found that the delivery of one in three major government projects has been flagged as 'in doubt' or 'unachievable'.

It found that lack of effectively management at a departmental and government level and the scale of the government's ambition coupled with a lack of capacity to deliver these targets have led to 34% of projects being given a red or amber-red status.

From today, new-born babies in England will be tested for more genetic diseases under the expanded heel-prick test. Early intervention will benefit roughly 30 children each year, NHS England has claimed.

The expanded test is also due to roll-out in Wales next Monday (12 Jan), while dates are yet to be confirmed for both Scotland and Northern Ireland.
