Part 3 of the ongoing Down To The Core series was posted earlier this morning. A final decision was needed on which dice would play a frequent player in the average dice pool and how many should be available in one roll. Worse than that, I had to finally make a decision on what to do with my beloved d20 in the Core.

SURVEY: How many dice feel "just right" in a dice pool mechanic?

Optional Core will use a dice pool mechanic combining everything from d20s to d4s, but we want to know how many dice you prefer to roll in any game?

Over the weekend, I put together an introductory video journal for Optional Core as an introduction to everyone here. What is Optional Core about and how can you help make it a reality? Those questions are addressed here to get the ball rolling.

I'm also going to use this video as the public presentation for Optional Core's design, so please feel free to share this entry with anyone else you think might be interested outside of this community. Go nuts! The more, the merrier.

Over the past week, I've been playing around with some icon designs for my Optional Core concept. Not only as a design choice, but as a learning tool suitable for a system intended to work with quick-play adventures allowing Directors and players opportunity to pick up the basics quickly. Plus it's a handy tool for pointing out important moments during play.

The first and major hurdle in any system is task resolution. Just as it was with the original Optional System, Optional Core uses a dice pool to determine a character's outcome or the difficulty of a complex maneuver. What originally required 6-7 dice per roll must now be condensed to 3 or 4 dice per roll... the question is where to stick the knife.

While not an official announcement, I'm ready to start talking and writing about my latest project. Optional Core will be a revised and streamlined conversion of the Optional System to provide quick-play adventures in a variety of genres and settings and so much more.

But it's not something I can do by myself and so I turn to the gaming public that has helped make Killshot and the Optional System what it is and craft it into something bigger, better, and stronger than ever.

Those of you already a member of this community will have front row passes to help develop and test this new system for the extremes of roleplaying. Fantasy dungeon crawls, deep sci-fi journeys into space, and all the crazy adventures we can come up with. The Optional Core community will help define the future of this line and Broken Ruler Games as a whole.

Bah! Something was damaged in the storm after all. There was a leak at the back of the garage and water got into the lawnmower. Sucker won't run without the choke left open.

While waiting for a little evaporation to finish the job, I started working on my blog's 200th post. Wow! When I was younger, I could never keep up with one idea and run with it long enough to become ongoing, yet here we are. Rather than reflect back on the past, I'll be talking about the future on Monday.

If you're a fan of #KillshotRPG and the Optional System (#OSRPG), Monday will be must-read material.

So what's the next step with the Optional system ? :-)

Today's Killshot Reloaded Video Update breaks down all the Killshot gaming going on at L.U.G. Con this weekend and explains how hazards functions in the new edition.

There are still some spaces available for my two Killshot Reloaded games taking place at this month's L.U.G. Con. You can play as an international operative helping to extradite an IRA bomber to witness protection in Operation: Killshot's "Bait'n'Switch" (https://plus.google.com/u/0/events/cqb4k1nc6r51u1ivtifrq4s7is0) or you can round up a posse and track down the Bloodrock Gang and rescue a kidnapped couple in Wanted: Killshot's "Redemption" (https://plus.google.com/u/0/events/ckhltedkambts676lrcj0aobd64).

Two great chances to try out the Optional System first hand and experience these new themes from the Killshot Reloaded Kickstarter.
