Susan Osborne

Discussion  -

My name is Susan (Blake) Osborne.  I am a descendant of Theophilus Blake (Bleak) of Greenbrier County, (West) Virginia and Augusta (Bath) County, Virginia through his eldest son John.  I have just finished a book on the descendants of Theophilus Blake and am in the process of writing another on the line of his son John.  I am interested in sharing recent discoveries on this research with any one who might be interested.

I am researching the Higginbothams (and related families) of Wetzel County.  My research goes back to John Higginbotham (1830-1900) and Elizabeth Shuman (1834-1913). I would appreciate hearing from anyone in Wetzel County who knows of these families and others who are related.

I live in Barbour County WV on the Buckhannon River near Volga WV.  My wife and I were walking the property adjacent to ours (67 acres) that is for sale and we found an old cemetery.  There are at least 11 grave stones, 3 of which have some writing that can be read.  On one grave stone you can read the letter E and the date 1834, on another you can read A H and the date 1843, and on the third we believe it reads J Hous 1811-1835.  The J is hard to read and there may be a letter after Hous but hard to tell.  The cemetery is located on the Buckhannon River in Barbour County, previously Randolph county I believe.  The GPS coordinates for Google Maps / Google Earth is  39.070524 -80.107971.  Just posting for anyone who may be looking or know something about the graves.

I've hit a brick wall with my Great Grandfather.
He is Isaac D. Carpenter from Ritchie County WV.  I've got his birth date at 1880 and he married my Great Grandmother Mary Ann Duff - Nutter in 1902.
Are there any Carpenters and/or Ritchie County people in this network?

I have roots in WV w/ some relation to the 'Carpenters.'  My Great-Grandmother was born , Virginia Sylvia Carpenter & later married William Stewart. I don't know the county she was born in though.  My Great-Grandparents lived in Jackson county W.V. 50's on I'd guess.  Virginia was one of Many children, possibly 10-12 from what I recall hearing.

Odbert Courtney

Hi,

I'm looking for decendants of and ancestors of Fielding Courtney.  Most people think he was born in 1798 but the later US Census reports have him stating that his birthday is around 1761.  I have him in Rockbridge County VA in 1810 and 1820, but no further info on him there.

Thanks

The main bunch I work on is William Morris and spouse Elizabeth Stapp from what became Kanawha County, and associated names of Young, Hansford, Butcher, White, etc.

I'm interested in the Crawford family of Mercer County and Monroe and Giles counties. Zachariah b1779 married Jane Bowling b 1787 in Giles County 24 Dec 1811 and had kids Sally, b 1812, ? name of son 1813-1815, Charles A 1816-17, John B 1818, Thomas 1824-25, Rueben 1829, and Margaret Harriet 1830-33. One of them is the father or uncle of my gggrandfather, William H bDec Dec 1845. He is not Chas and Chloe's son Wm H born 1842 and died at Lewisburg as a confederate soldier. My Wm H settled first in Meigs county Oh as did widowed Jane, John B and M Harriett Crawford Thomas with their Family. My GGGrand ended up mining in Pleasant City, Guernsey, Oh and died and buried there in 1913. Believe his father was Thomas Gideon (of vs versa) and brother Thomas, Jeremiah, Hezekiah and sisters Violotte and Addalade (Ardelia). Believe this family may be related to the Gideon Crawfords from 16090s in Rhode Island or the covenanter Gideon transported to the Carolina from Scotland Tollbooths before rev war.

My gg grandfather, Ernest Hartz was born in Grant County in 1845.  From what I understand, West Virginia wasn't a state yet.  Where should I look for his birth record?  In Virginia?

Thanks!
