Hey, just curious, but does PapyrOS shell work on Manjaro Linux? Also, what should I tweak/be prepared for when installing it?

In addition to +Grant Nichol's comment, you can find Liri Shell in AUR and I think the only thing you should be aware of is that it doesn't work with NVidia proprietary driver.

But bear in mind that Liri OS is under development and is not yet ready for daily usage.

So, any update on the status of that upstream bug? Seems that all progress on GitHub has halted, so I thought I may as well check (if anyone here is still alive 😂).

For those of you who are asking whether Papyros will support Google Play, or Android app x, or Android apps in general, here's what the general consensus is:

Android is about as close to PapyrOS as ChromeOS is, the kernel and coreutils are pretty much the only similarities, and even those are heavily patched for whatever device you're using. ChromeOS is getting the entire Android app ecosystem simply because they made a container technology to store the app AND the backend needed. PapyrOS doesn't have anything like that, just because Papyros uses the material guidelines does NOT automatically make it similar enough to android to run it's apps, the material guidelines are simply for UI look, feel, and interactivity, nothing more, nothing less.

Mods, feel free to take that bit and add it to the pinned post or pin this post as well (if the latter is possible), the multitude of people asking the same question that's been asked for months is getting old, I saw enough of that over at Elementary OS's community about their Loki release.

Is this project dead? I checked github activity and it seems they've been slowing down since the past few months to the point it now looks like the project is dead...

I'm not forcing anything, nor am I trying to criticize, but a little status update would be nice! Lots of people wondering what happened to this great project...

Relating the my previous post, how's this for a status update on the project? It's by no means perfect nor that descriptive so let me know any improvements:

Over the past year the Papyros team has been hard at work with the various projects under its organization such as the material terminal app (now with tab support, password storage, and a sudo warning) and a polished settings application. More information about recent changes can be found at Papyros's Google plus account: https://plus.google.com/u/0/113262712329378697012

Not exactly related to PapyrOS, but eh...

Currently trying to get Arch to work do I can try out the PapyrOS shell (finally), but after the installation, the ethernet has stopped working and is refusing to work no matter what I try to do, even when running from the live CD... And apparently, I'm the only one in the world with a "Qualcomm Atheros Attansic L2 Fast Ethernet" controller trying to run Arch, so googling is hopeless.

Does anyone here have any idea how to fix this before I run 'sudo rm -rf /'? Yes, I'm that mad.

Hello, I'd like to know, what is the average RAM usage of the system.

ajthemacboy's profile photo

It's impossible to say what the memory usage will be once the OS is complete...

But I'd guess it'd be about the same as any major Linux distro; maybe around 200-500 MBs idle, or if you're comparing it to what I understand to be a somewhat similar desktop environment (LXQt), 150-300 MBs.

It is a shame that the progression has slown down dramatically. These days there are not enough contributes to continue to build this OS. Papyros already looks really amazing, even thought it has not been fully constructed yet. I really want to use this OS and I am pretty sure y'all want to use it to.

My suggestion to get more contributors to help make this OS is to tell other people about Papyros, post about Papyros to other communities, even post about Papyros to Facebook to promote this project. If everyone can promote Papyros project somehow, then imagine how much support and contributions we can get for this project.

I was wondering about the current state of Papyros however I couldn't find that much on the blog. Would anyone with more knowledge be able to work on a progress post for the blog since the last update was almost a year ago?

I was thinking perhaps the community could collectively write up this post and submit a PR to the website on GitHub. What do you think?

+Matthew D. Scholefield agreed, I accidentally projected Frank's "seems dead" on your message, sry.

I guess the devs are that busy with reallife that they want to invest all the free time into papyros coding instead of writing blog posts, they should try to find sbd. who can invest that time though.

Should I download Arch Linux and migrate from Ubuntu?
(and then obviously use Papyros?)
and is it daily driver software

There is currently no login manager that can launch both Mir and Wayland sessions. LightDM only does X11 and Mir. GDM and SDDM only do X11 and Wayland.
