Here's a concise list of new features in the upcoming elementary OS 5.0. Yes, it's called 5.0, not 0.5.

+elementary and +System76 are working on a new installer to replace +Ubuntu's Ubiquity, and if all good you will see that on Pop OS 18.04 and elementary Juno, that are planned to release somewhere in April and May 2018 (or around there!!)

one of the goals of the new installer is to be OEM friendly, so the operating system will be pre-installed in the machine, and the user will only deal with post installation stuff, something similar to GNOME's initial setup

and you probably know all those already! but last night i learned something that i was very very very happy for, and i wont leak it till the people who are involved will post about, but i can tell you this! it is Rusty :)

I woke up this morning to find that between Corentin and David, we have a useful thing now! What you're looking at is a brand new Mail code base built on LibCamel (Thanks to Corentin's work upstream on Evolution Data Server) and with Webkit2. While that probably doesn't mean much to a lot of folks, it will mean quite a lot of things in the near future like:
* Support for more account types, notably POP3 and Exchange
* Better online accounts integration including 0auth logins like Google
* Higher resistance against crashes since WebKit2 allows multiple processes

And for us developers already it means a much leaner code base where we don't have to maintain a complete email engine and built from the beginning with modern widgets and libraries. That means not just things like better styling and animations but also better localization support (for RTL languages especially).

So yeah this app doesn't do half of the things that the current Mail does, just yet. But as you can tell, I am very excited and it is very promising :)
