Trusting GOD
Go To Scripture: Hebrews 11:6 – “But without faith [it is] impossible to please [him]: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and [that] he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”
Do you believe that GOD is real? Do you believe what the WORD of GOD says? To some it may seem that I am speaking sarcastically or that I may question my faith. For some this may seem so elementary that it does not deserve a reply. Your feeling toward this question is not the primary focus of this study, but the true focus of this study is this question to you: Do you trust in the WORD of GOD?
What is Faith?
“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” (Hebrews 11:1). Before you can receive or accept anything from GOD you will have to believe HIM. For example, I can supply someone with financial resources hundreds of miles away. The receiver of these financial resources has never touched, seen, or even spoken to me yet this person reaps the benefits of my financial resources. GOD can and does bless us even when we fail to acknowledge HIS existence or believe HIS written WORD, but until you believe and trust in GOD as GOD you will miss out on experiencing a true relationship with GOD. Faith is the maker or breaker in your relationship with GOD.
Some things seem so unrealistic that faith is not enough for us. We must see it to believe it! Yet the examples of faith in the WORD of GOD show us that GOD can and will do what HE said that HE will do if we believe. Often times GOD chooses to use a completely different route than we would choose to produce the manifestation of what he says will come to pass in the life of a believer. The idea that GOD may use a different route than what we see as logical is evident in the case of the promised son to Abraham (Genesis 15-21).
In this case Abraham presented his desire unto the LORD, the LORD gave a WORD that was to come to pass, and Abraham believed the WORD of GOD (Genesis 15:1-6). Now GOD’S WORD was that at the appointed time Abraham was to produce a child from his own bowels in the womb of his wife Sarah (Genesis 15:4, 18:10). Now look at what GOD chose to work with:
• Abraham is at least 75 years of age and Sarah is at least 65 years old
• Sarah was barren
• Both were well stricken (come in to, set in) in age
Logically with the ramifications present in this case there is no way that this couple would be able to biologically produce any offspring. Do you think that GOD was unaware of the issue that this couple faced? GOD was fully aware of these issues, which is the reason why the LORD asked the question “Is anything too hard for GOD?” (Genesis 18:14).
Abraham did not waiver at the promise of GOD and GOD counted it unto him for righteousness because of Abraham’s unwavering faith. GOD knew the value that Abraham and Sarah would put to having a child, which is why Abraham expressed to the LORD that he and his wife were childless. A great point to note in this case is that GOD gave the WORD to Abraham that he would father a son when Abraham was about 75 years old, but the son of promise was not birthed until Abraham was about 100 years old. Why did Abraham and Sarah have to wait so long for their child?
Have you ever wondered why the things you desire most seem to require more of your time and effort, but the things that you don’t value as highly seems so easy to obtain. Whatever you value most will have the greater weight in your priorities, your focus, and even your decision making. GOD wants us to have no other god before him. A god can be anything that you prioritize in your life that you establish as a focus concerning spiritual and natural resources. Many of us make gods of our jobs, our family/friends, spouses, finances, material possesions, ect...
GOD chose to implement a waiting period for Abraham and Sarah because he knew what type of value that the couple would place on this child and they could have allowed the very blessing from GOD to keep their heart from GOD. Through this waiting period GOD developed Abraham in his faith and established in Abraham’s heart a committed relationship to the BLESSOR and not the blessing.
Take a look at your own faith in GOD. Do you often look at the situations that you are in and make decisions based on the way things look? Do believe that obtaining the desires of your heart is nothing more that wishful thinking? GOD is true to every WORD that proceeds out of HIS mouth and HE will do exactly what HE said HE would in HIS timing.
For GOD so loved the world that HE gave HIS only begotten SON. Give GOD a chance with your faith. We give many undeserving people our hopes, our dreams, and our time. GOD is worthy of your praise. The thoughts and plans that GOD has toward you are for good and not evil. Give HIM your faith and it will be the best investment in yourself that you will ever make.
