Hello all! I am an English Language Development teacher in Arizona looking to find classrooms to collaborate with during the course of the fall semester. I have 7th and 8th grade Beginning English Language Learners in all of my classes. I would like to incorporate activities such as mystery calls and just plain video chats where they will be given the opportunity to maximize their English skills. If you are interested please feel free to message me.

SO I am wanting to start using google hangouts with my kiddos this year. Not sure ow to do it yet but I will figure that out. What I am looking for is if anyone has a letter they send home to parents asking for approval to be on a webcam. If anyone has a letter they use and don't mind sharing it with me I would appreciate it :-) And I am excited to get started using hangouts!!! :-)

Some heart functions can be assessed from the outside of the body. For example, the loudest heart sounds heard during a physical examination are the sounds of heart valves closing. There are four valves in the heart, one in each chamber. Located at the point where blood leaves the chamber, each is a membranous flap that serves to prevent backflow of blood. Valves are thus essential in keeping bloodflow unidirectional through the heart. Atriov...

About this community

This is a community for educators who are using Google Hangouts in their classrooms. My hope is that this becomes a hub for teachers to connect, collaborate, and discuss how they are using Google Hangouts to enrich the learning experiences of their students. Consider including your educational connection in your bio (school district, etc.).

HS art teacher looking for feedback about the use of sketchbooks in class. I've always had students do a weekly sketchbook assignment of 30-45 minutes per week. Assignments often relate to classroom studio work and are for extra practice or to exercise their creative minds. However, my principal has told me that students hesitent to take my classes because of the homework/sketchbook assignments. They "hate them". Any ideas? Should I give them class time to work on them? Should I offer them as extra credit only? Should I continue with them or eliminate them all together? I have to find a balance between keeping kids excited to take art and offering a quality art education. Thoughts?

What about allowing students to use alternative tools? Maybe instead of a sketchbook assignments, they can create a little video, or graphic for a particular topic? I would start by providing more choice for students. What would an acceptable alternative be? Taking photographs with their phone?

Hello Emily,

I was excited to see your post. I am actually looking to set up some Hangout sessions for my classroom this year as well. The time slot that you mentioned here doesn't quite fit my schedule, but if you are open to talking maybe we can find a time to set up a different date. I teach 7th/8th grade English Language Learners. I will need to schedule further ahead so that I have time to work out questions with them. If you are interested you can reach me at mgmartin@mpsaz.org.

Hi everyone!

We are looking to learn more about how students use technology in the classroom. Hangouts can sometimes be challenging to coordinate, so we want to try something new! My middle school student tech leaders made a Padlet to launch a collaborative technology project. Will you add your school to our Padlet? We would love to learn with you and from you!

Hola! Looking for Spanish classrooms to connect with in the US or other English speaking countries OR classes from schools in Spanish speaking countries. Grades 4-6 or ages 9-11.

my twitter handle: @carmenrfh
comment if you'd like to connect via email. :-)

Gracias!

Here is a link to Seesaw a wonderful App to collaborate. It is a sign up sheet based on year to connect globally. I've already inputted my info to connect. Please feel free to fill in if you are interested in connecting this way! Just saw an awesome Webinar on how to do this and it seems better than trying to Skype or connect via Hangouts because you don't have to worry about timezones!
