Today's learning targets:
- Discuss the meaning of specific words/phrases with others
- Identify an impression or idea created by a visual
- Discuss and share ideas with others in a group

Today, we will begin looking at some of the topics related to our novel study on The Chrysalids. Our first activity is a carousel walk. Please get into groups of 4; once your group has 4 members, send one person to me to get a marker. Then, stand in front of one of the numbered pieces of chart paper. When I start the timer, discuss the word or phrase with your group, and write down any words/phrases or connections that come to mind. Once your time is up, you will move to the next paper, read what the previous group wrote down, and then add your own ideas. We will continue until you have looked at all 7 papers.

Once we are done the carousel walk, we will look at examples of different covers of The Chrysalids. Choose one to discuss as a group. Answer the following questions: What ideas or impressions do you get from this book cover? What might the book be about? What gives you this idea (think about the content of the cover, colour, arrangement, line, size of certain objects, etc.)

Time permitting, we will start a discussion about post-apocalyptic survival.

Today's learning target:
- Select a way to demonstrate your understanding of the elements of short stories.
- Plan to use a specific form to communicate your ideas in a clear way.

Today, we will be working on your final assessment for the short story unit. Your task is to demonstrate your understanding of the elements of short stories that we have learned during the unit. You can do this by writing, presenting, or representing (see your assignment sheet for more details).

Today you will select the project option that you want to use, and develop a plan for your form. If you are completing an original writing piece, develop a planning page. If you are going to work on a presentation or representation, select the story that you are going to analyze and start reading so that you can identify the elements that you need to include in your project.
