Strong #SolarFlare Seen, Although Approaching #Sunspot Minimum

After turning towards the Earth in the last few days, large Sunspot AR2665 emitted a large solar flare late on Thursday (July 13). This is despite the fact that the Sun continues getting quieter as it approaches Solar Minimum, the nadir expected around 2019-2020.

Hello fellow amateur astronomers,
I'd like to share with you an open source, free telescope GoTo system, based on Arduino Due. I hope this free system will allow people to get into astronomy easy and cheaply and enjoy the night sky. Please, share with your friends from the club!

Comet 252P with the Milky Way over Muskoka

The other night I was driving around to find several locations and just before I packed it in for the night I went to a night farm field to capture a mosaic with my 35mm lens. I started had the idea of a stacked 9 panel mosaic from the treeline to Comet 252P. I took 3 images for each panel of the mosaic and then blended the mosaic with foreground after. I am really happy how much data there was to work with and I cant wait for more clear milky way nights. Thank you for viewing and feel free to share.

Bday Comet (comet 252P)

Looking ahead to events in space is always fun and last year when I found out that a comet was coming our way I was happy. This is not the best display of a comet but the fact it was going through the Milky Way for my birthday was just so cool for me! Tonight will not be good to head out but the other night I managed to capture some images of it before the haze and morning light took over. In the top left you can see comet 252P/linear 2016 and to the right you can see Mars and Saturn sitting about the Milky Way galactic core. Also it is International Dark Sky Week so please try to get the word out and help inform people about the night, dark skies, light pollution etc.For more information you can visit www.darksky.org. Thank you for viewing and feel free to share.

The Bay

Happy Easter everyone! I hope everyone has a safe a fun weekend! This image along with last 4 images I have posted were captured during one clean night in Killbear Provincial Park. Walking the shoreline looking for different locations to shoot with some of my new gear I have been testing was a lot of fun. Once the moon had set around 4am I started capturing many different images and panoramic images from several locations I had spotted. This was one of the first location I scouted out which I loved because of the ice and rocks coming together with the milky way. Scouting these locations I used a compass and apps to find out if and where the Milky Way core will rise and luckily that paid off. Thank you for viewing and feel free to share.

Night, Light and Ice (Killbear Provincial Park)

What a beautiful shoreline to enjoy the day or night. Sitting near the iconic windswept pine in Killbear Provincial Park I walked around looking for an area to shoot this Milky Way pano over the Georgian Bay shoreline. Since the sun was coming up soon it gave a nice glow under the milky way while the light pollution from Parry Sound balanced the image. If you look closely you can see a little meteor near the core of the Milky Way as well as the northern lights to the far left. Thank you for viewing and feel free to share.
