Your Class Reps of A17, J18, and A18 are excited to launch a pilot EMBA Mentorship Program this weekend to provide student-led mentor opportunities helping with everything that matters: personal and professional growth; insights into careers in various industries; breakdown of barriers between EMBA classes and Alumni; feedback on specializations, classes, personal and professional goals; along with anything else that may help improve your Stern experience.

I know we’re in beta on G+, but if you’re interested, here are a few additional options:
• Mentoring.org offers their website and software for use by qualifying mentoring programs. I think it’s free. You can learn more here: http://www.mentoring.org/program-resources/start-a-program/
• We could create a LinkedIn group (https://goo.gl/GTMfnx). Pros: almost everyone is already on it and will be active after graduations. Cons: not everyone is actively engaged in LinkedIn (when they are happily employed).
• Mentoring Software: http://chronus.com/, or this list (https://goo.gl/KJzsMa)

Hi +Devon Frazier and +Vandonelio Williams

Great work! Thanks again for taking this project on.

A few notes:
1. I tried finding “EMBA Mentors” through the G+ community search page, but the actual page didn’t show up. The closest match was the NYU Stern Executive MBA Students and Alumni group. Not sure if our page is “hidden” or I was just doing something wrong in search.

2. This might not matter while we’re in beta, but I feel the group title should include “NYU Stern” and be clear that this group is for both mentors and mentees. Perhaps something like “NYU Stern EMBA Mentor Program.” Thoughts?

3. Regarding signup… I think the easier we can make it the better. Can the signup instructions include the EMBA Mentors page link? That way, the flow would just be: Log into Stern Gmail -> Visit Mentor Page -> Ask to Join? Van, please correct me if I’m wrong, but I think this would work for anyone with a Stern Gmail account.

Another thought: since we’re in beta and the primary goal is to create a simple way to connect mentors and mentees, we could just create a PDF listing current EMBA Mentors (photo, bio, contact info) that mentees could use to reach out. We could update the list weekly, and have the PDF published so there’s just one link to the doc.

This would be a simple way to kick things off. It would give us a sense for supply/demand, and help determine desired feature sets for a more robust platform. If demand is high, we might be able to propose that NYU fund one of the paid mentor software programs. Just a thought.
