Episode 9: Acknowledgements
Dear readers and lovers of natural therapies, I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for following my nine episode story. And for your patience...
I especially want to thank you, our student who have participated in a course and you who plan on taking one. You who asked questions, who sent me your testimonial and stories and who, with your comments, encouraged me to continue. As well as all those who answered the survey and gave me many ideas on how to present the project.
In addition I want to take advantage of this final episode to also thank all our teachers, who have worked so hard to make our school (EiMDC) the sole reference for Dien Chan and Chan'beauté. And of course all our great followers who, since 2002, have trusted our growing team and continue to spread this message internationally.

As I have told you in the previous episodes of the blog, the magazine was born from a need to offer, not only a source of inspiration to our students but also, in a modern way, to embrace Chan'beauté's aesthetic-therapeutic natural self-care, for beginners.
I believe that by practicing natural therapies we participate in a healthier and environmentally friendly, more balanced world. Whenever we help someone consume fewer confort drugs, use fewer cosmetics, we lessen water pollution, thereby our oceans and our beautiful, unique planet. That we all have to participate in this change is a necessity. And because we are confident that you believe a more holistic view is plausible, that a better world is possible; we want you all to be part of this community.

As for the interactive Chan'beauté magazine itself, I obviously can not bore you here with a never ending list of names (which are in the magazine of course) but I would like to take this opportunity to thank Erica Layton and Michael Weiland, who also share the idea that knowledge is not a commodity in itself and for their extraordinary partnership in founding Multireflex – NorthAmerica.
We all realise we have to do «our part to change the world» and we believe our knowledge and refining the art of creative teaching aids, and then sharing the idea - makes the difference.

Now it is time to share with you this wonderful experience that is Dien Chan and now also - Chan'beauté.
We will offer 3 versions of the magazine:
The free Demo version which allows you to visit each segment to get an idea of it's capabilities and depending on your needs the 'Pro or 'Clinic versions. All available on iPhone and iPad.
Everything is detailed on our web site:
So, see you next week for the outcome…

Episode 8:  An Interview with Patryck Aguilar
I knew that Patryck was writing a summer mini series to tell you about the birth of this little jewel so, unbeknownst to him, I decided to do an interview.
He had installed the latest version of the Chan’beauté magazine on my iPad and, taking advantage of the holidays I started to flip through – but I had a few questions.
Now I want to share his answers with you...

—Béatrice: By the way, I love the magazine that you installed on my iPad. But ultimately it's much more than just support for your Chan’beauté course, yes?
—Patryck: Oh yes, the reworked student syllabus soon became a book and everyone is fed up with not-so-practical-books. But at the time I was still thinking about paper media or a PDF and that's why I wanted to give it the appearance of a magazine with practical sheets rather than long theoretical chapters.

—Béatrice: A magazine? On iPad?
—Patryck: The magazine format is more flexible and can evolve if it is published regularly. But the classic magazine poses many economic problems. How many copies to begin with? How to distribute it? And because we have students and people following us in many countries, I wanted it to be in at least 3 languages. The idea was good but still very rooted in the twentieth century. I was quite convinced that we had to move to an electronic version. So when the content started building I decided to do a survey;  ask specific questions to support the strategy and to get an understanding of potential readers.

—Béatrice: And what were the results?
—Patryck: Well they were very encouraging - in all 3 languages - they had an average of 95% positive responses, with one exception: Whether you should pay for it?

—Béatrice: Your clients don't value your work?!
—Patryck: I find it very difficult to understand how it is that there are still some people who think that the work of others has no economic value. I have a hard time believing that these are people who do not get paid for what they do! Or are they people who live by Piracy? But how do they fill their fridge? And do they only read free newspapers, full of Ads?  It's surprising!  Maybe they don't realize that without advertising or sponsors, other than our work, we have no other sources of income. I do believe though that it's just ignorance, not bad intentions...

—Béatrice: OK, but why iPad? Not a web page?
—Patryck: A web page is handy for other things, but  the graphic design is not completely controllable because the browser used manages the typography, the spaces and so on. And a web page is too far away from my first concept of a magazine.
I want this interactive magazine to be a real tool. I don't want an eBook that's passive, or a very expensive application (to avoid advertising). It's for those who want to learn, but cannot attend a course, so they can integrate Chan’beauté into their daily care.
The concept of an interactive magazine also gives me the opportunity to use FileMakerGo as a kiosk for other projects trotting around in my head. And the Chan’beauté magazine will have free updates through the kiosk.

—Béatrice: Yes, but an iPad?
—Patryck: Oh yeah! This interactive magazine concept is a very encouraging solution and I wanted to offer it at a lower cost. So I decided to use a free application as a kiosk: FileMakerGo. A bargain for small niche structures like ours. We already have applications for our team of teachers at the International School of Multireflexology - Dien Chan (EiMDC) who use them on their iPads and the results are very good. Unfortunately, for now, FileMakerGo is not offered for Androïd because it cannot control the tablet model of the end user and it's therefore impossible to avoid operation problems. The advantage of an Apple device (iPad and so on) is that everything published on this platform is guaranteed to work.

—Béatrice: Sounds great, but stop confusing me with technicalities... Is it going to be expensive?
—Patryck: No, I hope to cover all the costs of translation, editing, models and photography fairly quickly. But above all, because the concept, the design, a huge part of the writing and all the programming came out of my little head, the expenses are smaller. When you are passionate you want to share with the greatest number!
As a test, last June, I presented a prototype of the magazine at the Wellness Convention in Las Vegas, to over a hundred people; aesthetics professionals, well-being professionals, spa managers and others, who loved it. The latter were actually surprised by the price and even said that it was not expensive at all.
Many even wanted to pre-purchase - before the release!

—Béatrice: And when are you going to release this interactive magazine?
—Patryck: I confess to being a perfectionist and often it delays me, badly. Gillian, my Spanish-English translator, who's also a student of Dien Chan and Chan'beauté, has done a wonderful job for me. Thanks to this extraordinary editing work, I wanted to translate the English text improvements into Spanish and French as well. That delayed me a little bit.
I was also teaching in Canada for a month before Las Vegas. Sadly, more delay - I can't be everywhere all at the same time. So I decided to take advantage of the summer to tweak the magazine to perfection and intend to publish in September... 2017!

—Béatrice: Great, in a few days then!
—Patryck: Yes indeed - this week!
Oh, and I forgot to mention that each section; such as the free installation of FileMakerGo and the download of the interactive Chan'beauté magazine is detailed at

—Béatrice: I haven't looked at all the segments yet, but it does look easy to use. Is there a user manual?
—Patryck: Yes, but again that delayed me a little more, as I wanted user notes for each section and button; in three languages of course! In each chapter there is a help button that opens the appropriate page of the manual. However, as I decided to leave the user-guide on-line, so that the magazine doesn't take up too much space on the iPad or iPhone, you'll need a wifi connection to access it. But except for that, all the contents of the magazine work perfectly without a connection. That way, whether you're travelling by train, at the beach, in fact anywhere, you can flip through on your iPhone as well as use it as a tool on your iPad.

Well we are almost at the end of the mini series – one last episode before launch!
So see you again soon, as always on this screen!

Episode 7:  My clients are not passive, they care!
As we all know, today's women are looking for more natural care. Not only do they not want to smear themselves with dangerous, sometimes  carcinogenic products, but they're also concerned about the environmental impact some products can have. They care and that's good.
We also believe in being a part of this change towards a more sustainable world and want to provide you with solid information and precise stimulations for you to share.
For this reason I wanted to find a way to design treatments for Chan’beauté.

I had already developed something similar for the Dien Chan application: Faceasit’clinic (the facial reflexology App) and I wanted to advance this concept and also respond to students requests. So I conducted a survey to see whether integrated interactivity would be appropriate. The answers were very encouraging.
Not only was it going to support “Venus step-by-step", but it gave me the opportunity to offer a completely new segment dedicated to clients. Whoua!

So once again, I had to put on my “best" coder suit.
After weeks of reflection and searching the internet —trying not to reinvent the wheel— I finally came up with a fantastic idea. Why not offer a segment which included being able to draw areas (reflex zones) with your finger on a client's photograph, or a blank map, so they could work on themselves, at home, between sessions?
And here I'm going to give you a clue: It works!

The “Client” segment also had to have the ability to build a personalized treatment plan. Like your good friend, (you know, the one who subscribes to several health magazines) who cuts out all the tips for a particular disorder and then pastes them onto a card for you. So I included access to the Practical treatments, Protocols and bqc·point Formulas, as well as the tools.
All of this information, gathered into a PDF, is done without ever leaving the magazine or needing internet access to accomplish it, except of course to send the email to the client.
All that was left to do was an appointment book… It's there!

Working closely with my collaborators, we tested the segment and realized that managing the multireflex tools and the ability to order them easily, also had to be included. And as a bonus, I developed a feature to create individual tool labels, complete with your resale price. I have to say, very proudly, that this segment is truly unique!

Obviously if you have arrived here you must be asking «But isn't it really an Application?»
My answer is «No!» Because I wanted to keep the possibility of updates and improvements easy, without depending on a publisher. So I'll tell you, in another episode how, thanks to the iPad, I managed to save my original concept of a Chan’beauté interactive magazine.

Why do I want to call it an interactive magazine?
What makes it different? What's it's uniqueness?

The adventure continues ...
See you again soon, on this screen!

Episode 6: Why Yang~yin?
Frequently we hear talk about yin and yang. Often nonsensical and ofttimes only in a philosophical way.
But what is the difference between a yin and a yang stimulation? How is it integrated into Chan'beauté treatments?
It is much easier than it looks. In fact the genius of the multireflex tools resides in the fact that they provide subtle sensations.
Let me use an easy-to-understand metaphor: If someone starts yelling or is aggressive toward you, your first reaction is to turn away, protect yourself or fight back, “fight or flight”. On the other hand someone with a pleasant attitude, speaking in a normal tone, will get your attention. Well, every cell in your body has the same attitude.

For example:  If your skin is attacked by an abrasive technique, (which actually produces micro-inflammation that stresses the skin) the results are only superficial, your skin is 'fighting' to regain its balance. A massage whilst giving us a wonderful feeling of well being, does not offer precise stimulations, as the hands are neither yin nor yang.

However, the genius of the yin and yang designed, non-abrasive multireflex tools and using gentle techniques provides subtle sensations, as gentle as a caress which of course, depending on who is doing the caressing, can melt us to our deepest neurone!
...but I must not go astray here or I will have to increase the speed of my fan - it's hot enough here in Barcelona already!

Let's get back to the tools! The yang tools, increase blood and lymphatic micro-circulation, mobilizing nutrients deep in the dermis (second layer of the skin) and brings them to the surface. The yin rollers, disperse the nutrients, giving the skin elasticity as well as hydrating and refreshing the area.

It is always important to use authentic multireflex tools, as only the highest quality, sustainable elements and craftsmanship produce these magnificent and elegant tools. The genuine horn spiked yang balls, which have a natural antiseptic property and a vibration frequency that synthetic (i.e. plastic) doesn't have, are produced from cow horn - free from endocrine disrupters and other dangerous substances and recovered from farm animals at the end of their natural working life; none are bred for the purpose.
The pronged yin rollers are constructed from high quality steel, the cylinders and sphere from brass. As you become familiar with them you will find all the tools have multiple uses.

In Chan’beauté, as in Dien Chan, it is a combination of the quiet, soft technique and the yin and yang tools that gets results. However, as you have probably noticed in Chan’beauté, we begin with yang stimulations followed by yin. And almost all of the treatments start with this Yang~yin protocol and are then completed using the appropriate multireflexology steps.
At the end of an entire Chan’beauté treatment, apply your favorite, quality, natural cream, but maybe a little less than usual, as the treatment optimizes the active ingredients and increases absorption.
As an aesthetician you will, by adding a therapeutic dimension to your treatment, be breaking all frontiers and reaching the highest level of client care.

All these concepts are included in the Chan'beauté magazine, so as you practice you will be able to integrate them with ease. In addition, there is a link for each tool where you will find more detailed information on how to use it in other situations.

Our students and therapists know that keeping one or two multireflex tools handy is a must. And as you can see the Chan’beauté magazine is a working tool to consult at anytime, it has everything you need.

But as a professional how do you get clients to work on themselves?
How do you suggest “homework" and give them the advice and tools they need to complete it?
...And how do you share all this wonderful information with your friends?

We will continue in the next episode ...

Episode 5: To you, with love: Multireflexology!
In the previous episodes of this blog, I talked about what I had done so far to develop the magazine and about Dien Chan. Now I must find a way to explain what Multireflexology is. And in particular how it integrates with the attributes of Chan’beauté - and its strength.
The Chan’beauté magazine has to be comprehensible for everyone not just for professionals who want to offer a more natural, more effective and more holistic service but for anyone who wants to learn and take advantage of the joys of natural beauty.

Dien Chan is the method that uses reflex zones on the face to balance the body and we have many diagrams of reflection at our disposal which, when we combine them to locate an imbalance to correct it we find ourselves practicing Multireflexology; the “art” of using multiple projections to find the root cause of an imbalance.
Within Chan’beauté, you will discover not only that stimulation with yin or yang tools are extremely effective for improving facial blemishes, but that Multireflexology – Dien Chan also allows you to reach the internal cause of a disorder or imperfection.
It's not only a matter of understanding what Multireflexology - Dien Chan is, but above all, it is to be able to integrate it into Chan’beauté treatments. As each facial zone usually corresponds to more than one diagram I realized that questions were needed.

For example: The outer eye contour wrinkles known as “Crow's feet" correspond, as the Dien Chan diagram of the extremities (red man) shows us, to the wrists and hands. But it also corresponds to the diagram of the female reproductive system, specifically the ovary. And a third diagram, “Rodin”, reflects the head. So this step in the treatment would be where we ask ourselves (or our client) questions; Pain in hands or wrists? Reproductive issues? Head issues? As you can see projecting several diagrams can give you several answers – Multireflexology!!! And, depending on the answer, you use the treatment including bqc·point formulas, that support the affected area or organ.

After a few brainstorming sessions, it came to light that the structure of the "Venus step-by-step" segment had to be offered as an organized chart. Now that I knew that, I needed to apply it to every wrinkle on the face of Botticelli's Venus, as well as other imperfections such as scars or blemishes etc.

As it helps you quickly merge Chan’beauté into your treatment routines, you will love the "Venus step-by-step” segment.

Do you know, how I know, if an idea is great?
Well when, after much thought and many tests, it looks simple and it works!

I also need to explain how to apply the Yang~yin gestures.
How you will quickly learn to differenciate between yang and yin treatments
How soft and pleasant, never abrasive, stimulations can produce such visible and lasting results.

We continue onwards... Watch this screen

Episode 4: Venus, more than just a picture!
As you saw in the last episode of my summer series; I had to find a way to formulate Chan’beauté's care in quick, simple stages.
Writing a practical treatment or a protocol for each wrinkle on the face increased the number of pages substantially; unnecessary and annoying. Besides, the Practical treatments and Protocols already had a well defined structure and I didn't want to have yet another, because this would break the rhythm of the segments.

It seemed evident that a "step-by-step" segment would be perfect. The ideal would be the ability to refer each of the affected areas of the face, to easy-to-follow steps to treat it.

And I wanted a facial illustration to identify those areas.
As a teacher I have always been against using personal facial photographs as a teaching tool. Placing dots, or the Dien Chan diagrams of reflection on a photograph is misleading; our brain interprets the three-dimensional face in two dimensions and the projection is only accurate for the chosen face.
On the other hand a two-dimensional and symmetrical diagram shows the common reliefs of every face, whatever the width of the nose or the distance between the eyes, allowing us to mentally project a diagram of reflection.

But to draw a face from scratch? I'm really no artist. So I looked to the masters - Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci. They gave me an idea... 'Renaissance'!
What better picture to use than Sandro Botticelli’s Venus?
I could add an active graphic marker on each area, so that each one would link to precise steps to follow.
Thanks to this idea, I could finally introduce the therapeutic Dien Chan 'multireflexology' dimension to Chan’beauté.
But what is the multireflexology dimension?

How do we integrate this therapeutic work into aesthetic care?
Will it allow us to reach the root of an imperfection seen on the face?

The adventure moves on...
Let’s meet again on this screen, soon!

Episode 3: The Practical treatments were underway but...
....after writing the17th I encountered a big problem!
In the topics that I had covered I became concious that I was moving away from my primary
goal to produce a compendium of precise, professional treatments - I was going in all directions!

I realized, that if I wanted an informative magazine and not a text book, I had to define the difference between a Practical treatment and a care Protocol. The Practical treatment has to be a source of inspiration, an adaptable tool to the many work situations of aestheticians, and the care Protocol; a complete solution.
A new chapter was born, dedicated to the Chan’beauté care Protocols and it offered me the opportunity to solve the dilemma of self-care versus pro-care.
Now I could return to my initial ideas for the project:
- To help aesthetic professionals integrate Chan’beauté into their consultations and add a therapeutic dimension to their treatments.
- To strengthen support for students who participated in the training courses.
- To give information to all those who want to take charge of their beauty in a natural way that has profound and durable results.

I continued writing. After a few months I found myself with about thirty Practical notes and many Protocols.
I was happy! ...except that - we are often so focused on the content, we lose the overall picture - I needed to have them read and perhaps edited, to ensure they were comprehensible.
🇺🇸And as happens every year, the time had come to visit North America for the training courses. So it was in Canada that, after much debate with my teaching colleague Erica🇨🇦, the need to include what we do so well in the courses became evident - Summarize!
Summarize all those treatments that reduce wrinkles, make spots and blemishes disappear, reduce scars, eliminate stretch marks, etc., etc....

Voilà! A third segment was born!
But how to compliment and enrich the Practical treatments and Protocols we already had?
How to define its shape?

The adventure continues…
Let’s meet again soon, on this screen!

Episode 2: Unisex? Yes! ....But certainly feminine!
It seemed clear to me that although everyone must learn to reveal their inner beauty, it is the ladies who take this more seriously.
All the years of teaching Dien Chan (the original method of facial reflexology) has shown me that, along with female curiosity for natural therapies, women are more concerned about their inner balance: They know that an internal dysfunction or imbalance is easily reflected on their face or on their body.

In addition numerous therapists and students of Dien Chan told me of their many therapeutic success stories, often accompanied by comments from their clients that were related to aesthetics.
«Not only did I get rid of my cervical (neck) tensions, but I have the impression that my yang ball has also eliminated this ugly lion wrinkle that made my eyes look closer together.» —Marie-Hélène S. Lyon—
In fact, she was practicing Chan’beauté without knowing it! By applying a Dien Chan protocol  on her eyebrows, for the tension in her shoulders, she realized that her internal imbalances were being reflected on her face, and diminishing.
It is the very essence of Chan’beauté: Outer beauty re-balancing the inside! And vice versa.

But how to present all these treatments in a feminine way?
I put on my graphic cap and realized that, although purple was my personal first choice, pink should be the dominant color. But not just any pink!
I wanted a modern, sweet pink; a pink that would frame the pictures that illustrate the practical notes, a pink that would enhance the white elements and one that would combine perfectly with a cooler color, like blue.
It was during my chromatic delirium, that was not so simple to solve, that I understood that the striking feminine and forward thinking articles for natural beauty should also encompass the consciousness of modern women for sustainable solutions.
Treatments... articles... formulas; they were starting to take the form of a magazine!

You are going to love it... I finally asked Esther Solsona, a great journalist and author, who is very involved with feminine causes and who, for years has been practicing natural nutrition as well as holistic care, to write articles.

The adventure continues ...
See you here soon!
