For those of you (im)patiently waiting for this week's Mad Men episode, I wrote this article on the things Mad Men can teach us about business:

1. Other people's mistakes are your wins
2. The customers aren't always right
3. Embrace bottom-up management
4. How to deliver a jaw-dropping pitch
5. Keep it simple

Hope you enjoy it! Let me know your thoughts.

Although the show revolves around the world of advertising, there’s a whole lot Mad Men can teach us about business. The working world has changed a lot since the ‘60s (thank goodness!), but some concepts are timeless.

Hi small business owners! I have recently come across very interesting research that says reminders of money make people less likely to help each other and more likely to want to work alone. This research (too long to summarize in this post - but that I cite in the blog post attached), along with previous studies, shows that money does in fact alter our behaviour - sometimes in a way we wouldn't really like.

But as business owners, you know you cannot NOT think about money. Even though it might not be your end goal, you need it to keep doing what you're doing. So how do you manage the effect money has on your behaviour?

Richard Branson says "have fun," Eckhart Tolle says "live in the present," Alain de Botton tells us to redefine our meaning of success. What do you think? Can someone who doesn’t actively chase money be successful in that department? Or is it better to focus on enjoying the present moment and all other things will come?

Money influences how people behave. Just think about all the money sayings we have in English: “the almighty dollar,” “as sound as a dollar,” and so on.

Have you ever thought you're not successful because you're not as talented as others? Or because you don't have as much time as others?
Or perhaps because you're not as motivated?
Being successful is not about any of those things, as you can see from the work routines of some of the world's greatest minds. See what their productivity secrets are, and how you can adapt them in your own projects.

Most of their productivity secrets were pretty down to earth and common sense. We sometimes forget that even those we see most productive and creative are just human beings, like you and me.
