Dear MSA Santa Clara Parents,

As you’re aware, our school has been operating out of a Santa Clara Unified school site for the past three years. Our lease expires on June 30, 2015 and the district says it is not obligated to provide us an offer of space for the coming school year. I want to assure you that with the full support of the Magnolia Science Academy central office, students, parents and all stakeholders, we are working tirelessly to ensure that Magnolia Science Academy Santa Clara remains a high-performing school that serves the community.

The district had offered MSA-Santa Clara a facility for three years if it agreed to waive its Prop. 39 rights for seven years. Basically, they indicated they would give our school a campus, if we didn’t apply for any school site through Prop. 39. Now that the three years are up, they claim that they want our campus back because they are going to spend the school year doing the necessary upgrades to open it up as a district school in the 2016-17 school year. We’ve met with Santa Clara Unified to request a one-year lease extension, but so far, they have been unreceptive. The district currently has four campuses it doesn’t use. One of them is our current school site and the other three have been leased out to private schools. We believe it is the district’s responsibility to make MSA-Santa Clara’s public school students a priority.
We need your help to make our voice heard by the school district. We are launching tomorrow a campaign to ask the district to extend our lease by a year to allow us time to find a permanent facility.
Our Parent Teacher Organization will hold a Save Our School Rally tomorrow, March 4, at 3:15 p.m. at the school (2720 Sonoma Place, Santa Clara, 95051).
On Thursday, March 5, Magnolia Science Academy parents, teachers, and students will also attend the Santa Clara Unified School District board meeting to ask again for the District to extend the lease.

We ask that you join us to call and write the district and its board members telling them what our school means to you, what it’s given to your families and why it’s important that they help the program continue to operate at our current school site.  Their contact information is below:

Our team is working diligently to secure a site for the 470 students to attend school in the fall. We are committed to continuing to provide a high-quality public education that far outperforms most of the traditional public schools in the district. Rest assured, we will find a campus and will continue to provide our students a top educational program that will prepare them to succeed in college.

With your help, we have made MSA-Santa Clara the model school it is today and we look forward to continuing to provide the top-notch education you have come to expect.
