This is a great resource for projects like ours.  If you haven't been to the Verified Voting website yet, and you are interested in the current state of voting technology across the States, then take a few minutes and give them a peek.

We're changing the way the world makes decisions together. Building a tool for truly inclusive decision-making, not majority-rules polling, but actually coming up with solutions that work for everyone.

Filling out this form was more effort than not voting.

The European Commission's open consultation on copyright ends in less than a week on Mar. 5!

You can use any of these great platforms that make it easy for users to submit their own comments.

Jón Gnarr is one of Iceland's new politicians: alternative, engaged – and online. But now, as elections approach, the country's crowd-sourced constitution is in peril

#Anonymous #OpMonsanto #GMO #MAY25th

This is a call to all Anons.

On May 25, activists around the world will unite to march against Monsanto: because they are altering the nature of our food supply without a concern about long term effects on human health, because they are creating a monopoly on the supply of seeds for farmers and, because of increasing evidences of long term environmental damages.

Research studies have shown that Monsanto's genetically-modified foods can lead to serious health conditions such as the development of cancer tumors, infertility, birth defects, and other dis-eases. In the United States, the FDA, the agency tasked with ensuring food safety for the population, is steered by ex-Monsanto executives. World renowned scientists raising the alarm on GMO food, such as Arpad Pusztai, have been silenced. There is an obvious conflict of interests which explains the lack of public research on the long-term effects of GMO products. Recently, the U.S. Congress quietly passed the "Monsanto Protection Act" which, among other things, bans courts from halting the sale of Monsanto's genetically-modified seeds.
For too long, Monsanto has been the benefactor of corporate subsidies and political favoritism. Organic and small independent farmers suffer losses while Monsanto continues to forge its monopoly over the world's food supply, including exclusive patenting rights over seeds. Farmers trying to save their own seeds have been sued by Monsanto when their fields have been contaminated by Monsanto's patented seeds. Independent farmers cannot survive financially in the face of court battles against a multinational corporation.

Monsanto's GMO seeds are harmful to the environment. Scientists have indicated they have contributed to colony collapse among the bee population. The promotion of the use of glyphosate, an herbicide used in conjunction with roundup ready crops, has resulted in the apparition of superweeds and the widespread presence of glyphosate in the environment, with little being known about the long term effects of exposure on human health and on ecosystems.
There are many solutions: voting with your dollar by buying organic, labeling of GMO foods, repealing relevant provisions of the US's "Monsanto Protection Act". But today we are asking you to take a first step and help us to inform the public about Monsanto's secrets. Join us in the march to the streets to show the world and Monsanto that we are aware and want them to be held accountable. We will not stand for cronyism. We will not stand for poison.

We Are Legion.
We Do Not Forgive.
We Do Not Forget.
Expect Us.

Hi all,

Just a general update about this community. I've transferred ownership from the page I had setup for +Collective Congress to my personal account, since that project is currently on the back burner. If anyone wants to be a moderator, let me know. I'd love to see this become a more active group.

What's missing in the social web?

"The web is valued for its pluralistic nature, the beauty that anyone can write a blog and create a website. Whilst this is good, it also means that it is very difficult - even with Google's help - to understand exactly what is going on in relation to any issue. "

My address to the European Pirates which were founded this weekend. New article.

This weekend, hundreds of pirates from all over Europe gathered in the European Parliament to formally found the European Pirate Party. It was an amazing gathering of determined activists, many of which were absolutely electrified at realizing the sheer scale of this movement, seeing 400 of Europe’s brightest activists gathering for the occasion. I had the honor of giving one of the opening keynotes.

"Put all these technologies together and what we see emerging is a new paradigm of communications where decentralized networks replace massive servers, and where social media giants like Facebook and Google may very well go the way of the dinosaur myspace."
