This year we have discovered that the first S.A.N.T.A. Hash was held on 03 December 1983, 5 years earlier than previously thought.

The archives are now being filled with information regarding that first event.

Along with a photo provided by Kowloon Hash House Harriers, we have...

1. The newspaper article from the Hong Kong Standard of 4th December 1983, as provided by Adrian Ogle (ex H4).

2. A write up of the event from the LH4 1983-84 Diary, as provided by Ruth Hunt.

If you have any more information from Santa Hash #1 in 1983, or indeed any of the early years please get in touch.

From the LH4 Diary, the idea of a SANTA Hash came from Kris Major, a hasher and part of the S.A.N.T.A. team. For those that do not know, S.A.N.T.A. was the Spare A New Toy Appeal (believe to have started in 1979) and the precursor to OSC (Operation Santa Claus) that we now support. Toys donated to the appeal were later distributed to needy kids in children's homes.

Hashers All,

First, a big thank you to LH4 for organising Santa Hash this year and to all those that donated raffle prizes etc. It was another successful event with over 170 attendees recorded. Monies are obviously still being counted but we will let you know how much was raised once this is finalised.

Second, if you have any photos from the day please send them to us so that we can collate and upload to Google and Facebook.
