Introduce Yourselves!  -

Hello all.  First time actually doing this.  I am currently a graduate student at Argosy University in Orange, CA pursuing my master;s in Counseling Psychology.  I'm about finished completing my 650 hours of practicum, which leaves me with two more classes until I am finished.  I intend to pursue my doctorate afterwards.  I am currently being trained in Emotional Transformation Therapy, an approach that utilizes light and color therapy.  It is cutting edge stuff developed by Dr. Vazquez in Texas.  ETT is EMDR on steroids.  I would be more than happy to discuss this new psychotherapy approach to those who are interested.

Work inside a county jail. Where the divorce rate is over 80 percent. Have watched inmates and officers end up in the mental hospital, had to hold down inmates while they get "court ordered" meds, and physically fought with inmates attempting suicide.

I think that there is no way to stop the meds that are now out there, but I find it appalling the amount of meds people are on. I find it appalling that drugs are not legal..all drugs, meth, crack, etc..and I know being appalled isn't going to change anything, but I am trying to figure out why people are being scripted 3 or 4 meds 3 or 4 times a day-if someone is that "sick" they need to be housed~in a mental facility.

Would like to know who is scripting and why its okay to script this many drugs to someone walking around? Because I can tell you, loose numbers are 6 in 10 people booked in are on some kind of drug script. Most of them via government assistance.

We don't script people booze, or weed...in fact usually their sentence includes "Rehab" if they come in arrested for that, but it is perfectly okay to take Adderol, Xanex, and Vicodin daily, multiple times a day and they "need" their meds. These people are drug addicts, they act like other drug addicts when they don't get their fix, but instead of trying to get them rehabilitated and getting them off drugs like we have to do for booze, etc..we have to get them these mind warping drugs.

Roger, they won't tell you if they are in stock because they will get robbed, these are addictive drugs, and not everyone who uses them are addicts, nor would they rob a store - how ever there are people who will, that is why you cannot get that answer on the phone.
The saddest part again to me, is that the people who need them, don't abuse them and follow the instructions get caught up with these people clogging the system.

Psychology! I love the symbolism from the Greek Psi letter which is the same as the three prong devils pitchfork carried by Poseidon and the U.S. Navy Seals.

Historically, the letter Psi (Three Prong Devils Pitchfork Letter) is a Greek innovation that appears in the 7th century BC, expressing Ps and in English, the letter is pronounced “sai” or sometimes “psai” like in Si-don.

Sidon is located in the South Governorate of Lebanon, on the Mediterranean coast, about 40 km (25 mi) north of Tyre and 40 km (25 mi) south of the capital Beirut.

The Sidonians long oppressed Israel (Judges 10:12). It was the Sidonians, the Amalekites, and the Maonites? When they oppressed you, you cried out to me for help, and I rescued you.

In Genesis, Sidon is the Son of Canaan the grandson of Noah and its name coincides with the modern Arabic word for fishery. Canaan, according to the Book of Genesis in the Hebrew Bible, was a son of Ham and grandson of Noah, and was the father of the Canaanites.

Phoe-ni-cia/Ve-ne-zia is called the land of Canaan; southwestern Syria, modern day Lebanon and western part of Jordan.

According to the bible Andrew (St Andrew) was born in the village of Beth-saida on the Sea of Galilee and both he and his brother Pe-ter (P-tah) were fishermen by trade; hence the tradition that Jesus called them to be his disciples by saying that he will make them "fishers of men". St Pe-ter was the first Pope of the Holy Rhoman Church that oppressed the Jews for a thousand years from 800 to 1806 AD.

In reality Andrew and Peter were from Sidon or Saida, the third-largest city in Lebanon and Posidon/Poseidon is the King of the Sea. In Genesis, Sidon is the son of Canaan the grandson of Noah and the people that long oppressed Israel and its name coincides with the modern Arabic word for fishery.
Uranus (Quran) was the father of Cronus and grandfather of Jesus/Zeus, Hades/Addis and Poseidon. The “S” in Uranus, Cronus, Jesus, and Zeus are added Latinized endings to their names.

Cronus was the Spartan father of “Zeus/Je-sus” Poseidon and Ha-des/Hell.

Poseidon or Po-Sidon is called the "God of the Sea" and the Greek preposition A-Po means from or away from and Sidon or Saida in Arabic is a city, the third-largest in Lebanon.

All major Phoenician/Ve-ne-tian cities (Sidon & Tyre) were on the coastline of the Mediterranean, some colonies reaching the Western Mediterranean. It was an enterprising maritime trading culture that spread across the Mediterranean from 1550 BC to 300 BC. The Phoenicians used the galley, a man-powered sailing vessel, and are credited with the invention of the bireme. They were famed in Classical Greece and Rhome as 'traders in purple', referring to their monopoly on the precious purple dye of the Murex snail, used, among other things, for royal clothing, and for their spread of the alphabet (or abjad), from which almost all modern phonetic alphabets are derived.

The etymological origin of the Phoenicians can be traced to phoenix, “Tyrian Purple” (Tyre) or crimson, coming from phoinos, “Blood Red.” Revelation 17-3-5, And he carried me away in the Spirit into a wilderness; and I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast, full of blasphemous names, having seven heads and ten horns. The woman was clothed in purple and scarlet, and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls, having in her hand a gold cup full of abominations and of the unclean things of her immorality.

Revelation 17-9, "Here is the mind which has wisdom. The seven heads are seven hills on which the woman sits. The Seven Hills of Rome east of the river Tiber form the geographical heart of Rome, within the walls of the ancient city. Translating the phrase, “The Seven Hills Of Rome” into Italian gives you, Sette colli di Roma, and in Latin, Septem montes Romae or seven mountains.

Early burials in Rhome show that the Ancient city of Praeneste, Palestrina was already occupied in the 8th or 7th century BC. The ancient necropolis lay on a plateau at the foot of the hill below the ancient town. Of the objects found in the oldest graves dating from about the 7th century BC; the cups of silver and silver-gilt and most of the gold and amber jewelry are Phoenician.
Palestrina (ancient Praeneste) is an ancient city and comune (municipality) with a population of about 18,000, in Lazio, about 35 kilometers (22 miles) east of Rhome and is connected by the Via Prenestina.
Rhome as well as the United States also have their origins that go directly back to Pala-tine Hill (Palatine,Palatinos) where recent excavations show that people have lived there since approximately 1000 BC and it’s the etymological origin of the word “palace” and its cognates in other languages (Italian "Palazzo", French "Palais", German "Palast", etc.). Now you know where Palestine and the Palestinians come from, Palatine Hill in ancient Rhome.
In fact Many affluent Romans of the Republican period (c.509 BC – 44 BC) had their residences there and during the Rhoman Empire (27 BC – 476 AD) several emperors resided there; in fact, the ruins of the palaces of Augustus (27 BC – 14 AD), Tiberius (14 – 37) and Domitian (81 – 96) can still be seen and Augustus also built a temple to Apollo there, beside his own palace.
When you read about the Bar Kokhba revolt (132–136 AD), it was the third major rebellion by the Jews of Judaea Province against Palatine, the Palastine Rhoman Empire and the last of the Jewish–Rhoman wars. The revolt is considered to be the climax of the Jewish–Rhoman wars, after which the Jews had become a devastated people - their cities were laid waste, over half a million killed and the survivors dispersed through the slave markets of the known world in a clear case of genocide and the Rhoman Occupied Judaea province was renamed Syria Palaestina (Palestrina) and Jews (formally all circumcised men) were banned from entering the city on pain of death.

Hi all,
With the  premise that the human brain is the most complex system in the known universe, I studied some undergrad psych - some years ago.  Since then, I've found that knowing about cognitive bias is an advantage, and I'm also interested in AI.  I am probably cyclothymic.  I'm an irregular poster, but this looks like an interesting place to be.

Hey Mike, I am Cyclothymic, so I thought I might shed some light on how it feels from the inside. Yeah, there's the inconsistency, but it's...strange.

I get really intensely into one thing during my hypomania, lasting 4-8 weeks. I'll read tons of books, comment on sites all day, forget all my other responsibilities and become absorbed--if I chase it. Great way to learn things, but bad for jobs and school.

Depressive phases are usually about being indecisive about everything. Which means procrastinating, since I can't decide what's important.

Mixed phases are the worst, but they are fortunately quite rare. Lost my drivers license going 40 over when I was 18.

To answer your question Mr Kemp, many of our morals are embedded into the fabric of our lives. When we go out into the "world" they are challenged by those who believe differently. It causes us to question ourselves and thus some end up lost in those uncharted territories.

Tin Man

Introduce Yourselves!  -

Hello,
My name is Dan and I spent my entire career working with what most would refer to as emotionally disturbed children. On the side however I kept myself firmly entrenched in the literature and the issue of the day. There was however a big switch in focus as psychology tried to become more scientific.
Statistical models tried to match those of the other sciences but the brain studying the brain presented special problems. Some veered more towards clinical work while others were more experimental. Many movements came and went from strict behaviorism to more cognitive approaches. Since this field included humankind in all of their aspects there were many ,many directions. From developmental, to physiological,
Of late two trends stand out one being the use of advanced machinery to aide in understanding underlying biological processes and the other was the proliferation of what I would call the digital culture. This change is having profound effects which I will  outline as I see them These two taken together have become the strongest areas and tools being utilized.
What is unusual is that the culture itself has changed markedly becoming what is referred to as  The Digital Culture which is so quickly embraced by so many, although it can never truly return that embrace is dumbing down information to it's lowest level while destroying the very discussion which allowed it to progress to it's higher  levels. Fact checking is considered a measure of intelligence without the minimum insight of realizing that facts (should they exist at all) only have that possibility among like constructs (should they exist). It has been my belief through many years as a practicing psychologist that the reception and projection of form and their interaction are the only possible like measures. And simply distilling them into comparable forms has taken a career. I do have an underlying model of psychopathology for instance but would never have dreamt of moving forward beyond the data testing stage at this time. But the Digital Culture leaves no time for solid research and forces any of us guilty of original thought to consider POP Psychology as the only path to challenge the Burgeoning pseudo facts that have become us and our work to the larger culture.
I would never dream of so overstating my ideas but the "Temporal Centrism" which is so pervasive in terms such as "we now know" or
"as it turns out" which are commonplace among the "professional papers" being ground out at an alarming rate in particular since the digitalization of programs of study which are proliferating to nearly every University to keep pace, as well as loss of deep statistical understanding which has long been wanting into pragmatic programs into which people simply plug in data (setting aside for a moment what the manipulation of axis to fit data might possibly mean, to the most pernicious of all, the use of studies as data points as in meta analysis
where the cumulative effects of error are accounted for erroneously as
though the error with in  the original studies were somehow accounted for. in current methodologies.
I must admit stepping well outside my actual knowledge for the most part because scientific data is now a commodity not easily procured free of cost.
My expertise has been programmatic and clinical but my eyes have not been closed to he troubling trends of pragmatism which have plagued the very model of scientific method. How rarely I hear of a method not a means to finding "truth" and rarer still is it mentioned that
rejecting the null hypothesis is all we can achieve with this method  particularly in the face of the multiplicity of levels of human thought and behavior as well as an even larger number of ways to conceive
these phenomena.  Were you in the field and dealing with unfounded proliferation of types of pathologies and responses particularly from the physiological psychologists.
I'm not sure that the move from an analog model  to a digital model has taken itself into account. The pervasive nature of this change and the effects it has had on the  data we gather can not be over stated. I would invite all Psychologists to take them selves outside the model to the point to which that is possible and watch a two year old in a room full of adults as they appear to have machines which are attached to the ends of their arms and to that child they very often see a very limited silent movie in a room full of people communicating. Just not with people in that room. And the lack of gestural, emotive , and body language is profound.
I can only explain what I observe and ask others to try to predict the paths we are sending the children I have spent a lifetime helping to explain them selves and problem solve, etc. and at least question what all of these changes mean. I was raised on Science Fiction and can there be any doubt that big brother has come and gone. And imagine those thick dossiers that the digital power structure has on each of us and ask yourself if a Government which nullified the constitution of it's own citizens and much worse to other sovereign nations as we impose the New World Order and ask yourself if these folk who act with impunity and multinational corporations are where we want  such information about the children and humanity we represent, kept!
I know I have gone far a field but I have only scratched the surface
and as much as I hate to say it present conditions in and out of science remind me very much of Germany in the 30's.

Having grown up as the middle child of three girls, with my older sister being severely, mentally and physically disabled; I had to play the role of oldest and middle child. You can never truly understand the struggles of someone until you've "walked a mile in their shoes." Just an extension of my previous comment that I thought I should share. :-)

I know this is something very unusual but I think I should share it with you all. It's time people should change their attitude! Hi, my name is Muntaha and I am a grade 11 student. I moved with my family to Canada last year. We are NEW immigrants! Nd yea we are fairly new. Coming to Canada was a big change in my life! Well we didn't move to this country for financial reasons, by the grace of the Almighty we are solvent enough to live in this country or anywhere. Our parents immigrated only to provide us with a better education. But who knew that this new environment will not be so welcoming. The first month we moved in a house in Mississauga. This was the first time we got to experience the nature of the people here. We come from a very standard environment but then again this country was new to us. But unfortunately the owner was disrespectful enough to make us realize that we were NEw! As days passed by, we were coming across different attitudes in malls, hospitals, in workplace and in school. Like any other Asians before coming here we also perceived the idea that people are not disrespectful in western countries! But we were wrong, infact very wrong! Let me start with an incident that happened today, a while ago.My 43 year old mother just came from her workplace; this was the fifth time that she came with her eyes puffy , watery with her precious tears! "I can't take this anymore! This is mental torture."She is right , this is actually torture. Her manager behaved very badly with her.Not just today, there have been days where she was made to realize that she was just an old, slow and a new worker! I wish I could mention the name of the food store but it's just too popular to be criticized! I learned one thing in these few months; don't be naive, sweet and timid especially in this country, perhaps in Toronto. Getting into a school that too in a country like Canada was an excitement for me and my siblings. Of course we knew that students are treated here like Prince George and we were right partially. Canadian students are treated like what we thought but not new immigrants.Interestingly, Canada is an immigrant based country. First few days went pretty well, but sooner things were coming to reality. I entered my chemistry class and like a well-mannered student I greeted the teacher. "Hi miss." She didn't say anything for some time and then very reluctantly nodded. Just after a few moment, an unruly guy entered the class, didn't even look at the teacher, he sat down. To my surprise the teacher greeted him so overwhelmingly just the way I greeted her.But this time the boy didn't response. He nodded. I faced this kind of awkwardness in my other classes too.And then I realized that sweetness doesn't work here.I should change my attitude. We were told from the Newcomers orientation program that you can seek help from the teachers when ever you want and never hesitate. I did what I was told. But I was offended by my teacher. She yelled at me when I asked her a question. I can speak English very fluently and I am a smart student then what went wrong? I was new and I was naive. There is no racism in this country.Canada is a multicultural country .What if my teachers are Canadians but I am certain that there parents or even their ancestors were immigrants. Then why don't they realize what we go through. These incidents made me really strong, strong enough to defend myself, strong enough to be aware of my rights. I stopped being too humble towards my teachers , I behaved like I knew everything and not to my surprise I was being treated like Canadians. Not only that in school, I got the same change of attitude un subways, in malls and let me tell you one thing, people here can read your face. They will treat you what you show through your facial attitude. One of my friends from Afghanistan, on her very first day in this school was sent back to her home because she was wearing a leather tights under her school uniform. I am the witness when I saw our principal running after a boy who was not in uniform. Interestingly, the boy was not running, he was walking like a sloth. He didn't bother to look back to the principal." Hey John! How are you, ? I ll be happy to see you in your uniform," the principal stopped the boy.And I was thinking about my friend who was sent back to home even though she was wearing her uniform! I will stop here. Because everyday me, my parents, my siblings and my friends who are new faced this kind of
disturbing and mentally torturing situations. But I don't know about others, these situations have changed me. I am a Canadian now.I talk like a Canadian, eat like Canadian and behave like a Canadian. And now I am treated like a Canadian!
