Korea Festival in AKL 2017 School Programme

New Zealand schools in Auckland (Hamilton) have the opportunity to apply special event that enables their students to experience Korean cultural activities and/or increases their students’ knowledge and understanding of Korea.

The professional instructors will visit your school and run the activity for your students. The programme can be arranged in your regular timetable (e.g. Taekwondo as a PE and K-pop workshop as a Dance class etc.) or some activities can also be arranged as holiday/after school programme and school club/extracurricular activities.

All costs are covered by the Korean Consulate in Auckland, and the schools need to meet all the requirements and the number of participants when applying.

Paula Marshall-Kasper and myself are currently lucky enough to be on Language Immersion Awards in Fukuoka, Japan. paula is into her final 2 weeks of her 3 month award while I've just arrived at the halfway point of my own month long programme.
Here in Fukuoka we spend 4 hours a day at GenkiJACS a language school in total immersion classes. The school also provides us with other opportunities such as games night, movie night and discounts to local theatre groups. Our weekends are spent exploring this beautiful region, and it is here we have the opportunity to put our Japanese language to use.
I highly recommend a Language Immersion Award to anyone keen on improving their own language proficiency as in two weeks I know how much I have developed. In class I've not only developed my language skills but sourced ideas about teaching to second language learners. My final point is when I asked my class what they wanted me to get over here they replied evidence of authentic Japanese culture. I now have a bank of photos, videos and arifacts that will do just that.
This experience has been worth every second, and both Paula and I are adamant we will be better Japanese teachers for this experience. For more info contact: Prue.elwood@afs.org

The above photo was taken on a weekend trip to Kumamoto.
