Things to get for a long term disaster;

Animal traps. spring jaw, and cage type. Duke brand are inexpensive at local feed stores, the price is outrageous at AMAZON. Also "WHITE'S AUTO FISHER" get a box of these on E-BAY (price is ridiculous on AMAZON), check your fishing laws first!!! They are legal to use in public water bodies in Louisiana, but not in TEXAS ( only private water bodies), but in TEXAS if there is a shortage of food after a disaster, your allowed to use whatever means to catch game or fish to survive.

Get allot of good COFFEE beans, the ones that are in a vacuum sealed bag, and freeze them! get a manual coffee grinder, and keep your consumption to one cup a day or less, Coffee is a Valuable Commodity, as is PIPE TOBACCO

Aluminum Sulphate (alum) lawn and garden stores, sometimes Home Depot and Loews carry it, otherwise go to Houston Garden Centers.

Water Softener Salt (crystal type) Salt is always a valuable commodity

Sodium Carbonate (Arm and Hammer super washing soda) it comes in a cardboard box like BORAX, if your keeping it in a garden shed or garage that may experience humidity, then spray the box with a good coat of clear lacquer otherwise you may have a huge block to break up when you need it.

Prague Salt (use to keep meat good when making sausage or jerky) hunting and outdoor supply stores have this, or you can order it online.

1 gallon of mineral oil (feed stores) you'll need this for a number of reasons, good for chapped skin, useful to keeping tanned hides soft, people and animal laxative. BRAIN tanning works well, but animal brains of some species may be infected with prions, and could spread to people (mad cow, Mad sheep, mad elk, etc)

The salt, Alum, and Washing soda, mineral oil are all useful for tanning hides with the hair on.

ZOTE soap, available as bars from the grocery store has allot of uses, it stores well, and with some sodium carbonate and or borax you can easily make your own HE detergent, that does better on clothes than most other liquid HE detergents

Consider acquiring the following books and publications for your emergency library;

HENLEY'S FORMULAS FOR HOME AND WORKSHOP
The CIVIL DEFENSE PUBLICATIONS on improvised fallout shelters
US Army Survival Manual: FM 21-76

Hello all, I created this group, and I am glad to see it is used well! Sorry I've been gone for so long, I work in MARINE ELECTRONICS now, and with buying a house last year, i've really been busy. I am working on building my photo lab in the back yard with my fathers professional darkroom gear. I still have a long way to go, I have to run; hot, cold, and drain lines to the shed, and build the support for the sink, add some electrical outlets, and lights, etc. Hope to have the BESELER 45 MXT enlarger up and running soon.

After creating a big buzz last year for our Galaxy Hyper Speed Direct Positive paper, we are back with the project for medium – format camera users.
Please, welcome a new DP Paper on 120 roll for medium format camera - the swiftness of Polaroid with the nostalgic look of classic black-and-white pictures!

You'll love this. Brian Griffin has re-imagined the basic concepts of exposing a film negative. With Ilford 4x5 Black & White film and a large format Cambo SC-2 camera, he focused sun light directly onto his negative, moving the film manually to create the round shape of the sun and golden patterns within in.
