My wife uses here laptop to do our finances and deal with her photos and such. When we met she the computer she had didn't work. I bought her a laptop set it up with Linux. I believe at the time it was probably Mint running XFCE. I put kmymoney on it, pysolfc for her to play solitaire with, and vlc for her to watch the videos she took with her camera. If we go shopping for printers and such she even knows to look under system requirements on the packaging to see if it is Linux compatible. If Linux isn't mentioned she looks to see if it is Mac compatible because she knows Mac is Unix based and there is a good chance that means it will work with Linux as well.
Mathew is like a lot of people you see trolling forums. He is on the Linux bandwagon as long as everything is going without issue. When there is a problem he wants someone else to give him the easy answer so he won't have to actually work through the problem himself.
My only issue right now with Ubuntu Mate is that the webcam on my laptop is showing my image flipped. I don't want any help fixing it first off because it is only a minor issue and If need be I have a GoPro I can hook up and use. Secondly if I rely on someone else to give me the easy answer then chances are the knowledge I glean from working through the issue will not stick with me for future reference when needed.
