As India grows, start-ups will have to play a very crucial role in its economic success.  Yes, established companies will grow but the true measure of success would be how many Flipkarts, Snapdeals, MakeMyTrips and Meru Cabs can come up in India.

I was sitting at my desk today waiting for my computer to decide to respond when I tried to open a document, and, after 10 minutes of waiting with the mouse icon just merrily animating away, it opened, but not after it decided to close everything else down and I found myself exclaiming out loud “for ** sake why the hell did you do that for!!???”, as if it could actually hear me?!
Whilst I was sitting there, I decided to scribble down a quick top  (I thought I would to the top 5 as everyone does the top 10) things that annoy me at my work, as I was clearly in that frame of mind:

1.Rubbish computers: we are always being told that we need to work harder, more efficient, made to feel guilty for taking that occasional extra 10 mins during lunch break when we should be at our desk slaving away – but the company fails to grasp the rubbish they give us is the problem, not us.

2. Cleaners that do not actually clean: each morning I come in to find that my things have been liberally scattered around my desk by the cleaner each night, so every morning I spend the first 10 minutes of my day re-arranging my desk, but why, oh why, is the coffee stain on my desk (which has been there for over a week now!) still there, and so is the dust which covers my keyboard like a fine sprinkling of snow.

3. People who do not flush the toilets: I debated with one about putting it higher on my list. There is nothing worse than when you need the toilet, rush in, lift the lid and……..oh my god you are met with a scene reminiscent of a horror film. Why do some people have a phobia when it comes to flushing, it’s such an easy thing to do, the people who designed your toilet even provided a convenient button or lever to help you do it.

4. The IT helpdesk: now I know I may be risking the wrath of some individuals here but we have all, at some point, suffered the pain of having to deal with them. You know what I mean, the monotonous music played on a loop, when you get through you find they cannot help but just log your call ready for someone else to come and help you or put you back in the queue. But the best one that I heard is that when the entire network is down and you are told you will be sent an email to tell you when it is working again.

5. Air con: if you are lucky to have this then you will know what I mean when I simply say “turned to hot in the summer and switched to cold in the winter”; enough said.
