Most people have never been trained on how to find a job. However, research shows that the average worker only spends 4 years in a job — and you’ll have as many as 12-15 jobs over the course of your career.

Remember, you only need one company to hire you. Instead of focusing your efforts on making dozens or hundreds of contacts with prospective employers, be selective!

Tip #1

Start with the final results in mind. Take the time to think about what kind of job you’re targeting. What job title, functional roles, and industry are you interested in? Any specific companies you’d like to work for? If your ideal job was available, how would you describe it?

In the decade I've been writing resumes and providing clients interviewing tips, the single best tip I've given is this:

When the interview starts to wind down and you are at that part of the interview with your potential future boss where they ask, "well, do you have any questions for me?", say yes, and ask...

"How can my performance assist you in getting an outstanding performance review next year?"

This bit of advice has helped more people in more interviews than any other bit of advice I've shared in the last decade. Why you ask?

We spend so much of the time talking about ourselves during the interview process that we sound self-absorbed. We are so obsessed about the job, we forget about the work. Working together and being a team player mean being concerned with team success. That means being concerned with how well you help your boss succeed.

Asking this question shows that you empathize with your box and have an interest in their career and future success. Try it and see if it does not bring you to the top of the interviewing manager's interest list! Good luck. www.trumarkresumes.com
