Running a business is a lot of hard work.

It doesn’t matter if you’re managing a corporation of 100+ employees from a mahogany board room or running a scrappy insurgency of “me, myself, and I” from your breakfast nook.

It requires work…and planning…and operation costs…and salaries…and IT…and marketing…and analytics…and R&D…and, and, and.

Yet, intelligent and creative business owners and managers find a way to make it work.

People find new ways to streamline manufacturing, budget for overhead, and effectively market every day.

They do it by creating or utilizing the right tools.

That may sound simple, but the moving parts required to make that process work are incredibly complex.

Optimization, tracking, metrics, split-testing, and other business best practices can be hard to keep track of.

That’s where these 10 content marketing tools come in handy:

Why “In-House Syndrome” is Killing Your Company: http://theupperranks.com/Blog/in-house-syndrome/
I'm working on a facelift for our company website. Though it's something I could probably wing on my own, if I put in enough time, I simply don't have the time or energy to learn and make mistakes as I go. And the website I come up with wouldn't be as good as the one my web developer can design.

Google has done its best to limit deceptive and harmful practices. Yet clearly old dirty tricks can be effective. And for some, the risks of "dirty" SEO justify the short term rewards.

The rewards never last. If you're website is engaging in dirty SEO, you will be penalized by Google. As Kissmetrics notes, the Penguin algorithm, introduced in 2012 to eliminate spammy practices, "wiped some sites out of search entirely, pushed poor quality content off the map and forced optimizers to think much more carefully about their content strategy."

Even then, a small business owner could easily be excused for fearing SEO and SEO firms.

In this blog, we discuss how to find a reputable SEO firm.

A question to the bloggers and webmasters regarding the SEO Friendly URL Structure. Which one is more beneficial URL Structure for SEO to go with - URL Structure with folders or URL Structure without folders?

To all the bloggers, please suggest which one is good to go with - URL with folders or without folders?

Pathways (folders) are useful to help define a landing page as a subset of a certain topic that shared strong relevance between other subsets in that same topic. You should avoid using folders as a strategy to only add keywords into the URL. In other words, define a logical reason outside of SEO as your main purpose, for example: users could easily find all of your articles relating to topic X in the folder /x/ in the very same way that one might do this with hard copy documents in any office or library.

In the world of search, a "finished" website is a dead website. Building a speedy, attractive site with relevant content is a great place to start; unfortunately, too many small businesses stop at the beginning.

At the beginning, a speedy, attractive site with relevant content should rank well. Over time, however, a website that does not update or refresh content and design risks losing traffic and rankings.

To meet the demands of today's information-hungry browser, you must change and improve. A static site will falter, but a dynamic site will maintain rankings and increase traffic.

App store optimization (ASO) has become a popular term with #businesses and #marketers. This is the result of a growing need to get apps discovered among the millions of other mobile apps available today. That’s where #ASO comes in handy because it involves #optimizing your apps for a higher rank in the search results of an app store.

When thinking about your brand's SEO, follow this advice: "Think carefully about how your company, product or service is related to a topic or topics that taps into deep-seated human emotions within your target demographic."

Ask yourself: Who am I trying to attract? What sort of emotion do I want my customers to feel when thinking about my brand? Likely, your answer will be, simply, "a positive emotion," though you could also shoot for curiosity, amazement, interest, or astonishment. The key is to make sure that your content embodies those emotions.

Make your target audience feel good--or amazed; or whatever--and your target audience will return the favor.
