This may be worth installing on your browsers, to protect you from ultra-high frequency audio watermarks.
Silverdog is a sound firewall for Chrome that blocks ultrasound frequencies in the browser to block ultrasonic sound tracking.

Consider the fact that my extension and content script works really fine under "chrome-extension://" protocol.

Time is money. I’m freelancer and entrepreneur therefore this proverb is true for me. So I wrote TimeYourWeb Chrome Extension to be able to control this valuable resource. Now everything is under control. I know how much time I spend on Facebook, how many cartoons watch my son and when I checked my email last time. I’m sure, it will be useful for other Chrome users. I’ll be grateful for your opinion and advice.

Anybody know how to tell a Chrome App deployed on Android (via the Cordova package system) to continue it's processes while the phone is in sleep mode? Seems to do that automatically for a period of time but won't go indefinitely...

Hello, I am developing a chrome extension that trigger click event on web page. I use content script to do that but the problem is the the script that I inject is only functioning once.

var s = document.createElement('script');
// TODO: add "script.js" to web_accessible_resources in manifest.json
s.src = chrome.extension.getURL('script.js');
s.onload = function() {
this.remove();
};
(document.head || document.documentElement).appendChild(s);

$( document ).ready(function() {
console.log("start")

$(".btn--pay").click(function(){
$(".vd-body").attr("style", "display:none;");
console.log("click")
$.get(chrome.extension.getURL('popup.html'), function(data) {
$(data).appendTo('body');
// Or if you're using jQuery 1.8+:
// $($.parseHTML(data)).appendTo('body');
});

});

console.log("end")
});

Hi. Why do you inject the script.js with this method instead using the chrome API?. Is the document.ready block inside script.js?

Quick question. My teachers were excited by the new Cast for Education app that was just released. But I also know that Google has recently decided to drop support for Chrome Apps for Non-CromeOS devices. So does that mean Cast for Education is dead even before it started?

Hi Bjorn, I can confirm that Cast for Education will continue to work on Windows, Mac, and Linux through the posted schedule (blog.chromium.org - From Chrome Apps to the Web) and we are looking into alternative ways to support it on those platforms after the transition.

Thanks,
Max

Google: Chrome App Platform is a failure and shall be discontinued in coming year 2017. What are your thoughts on it?

Their decision to kill the Chrome App Launcher makes a lot more sense now.  As disappointing as it is to have yet another Google API get deprecated, Chrome packaged apps always had the issue of making those web apps exclusive to one browser.  This announcement has the upside of moving Google back toward supporting the open web.

Hi,

New to the group. I need to write a couple apps to run in chrome/chrome OS. I'd like to develop these on a Chromebook, but I don't have any idea where to start, or what tools to use. I've read a little about Dart, but it seems like Google has started to move in another direction.

The two highest priority apps are
1. Automate setup of new students & teachers. This will involve setting up accounts in Google apps for education, and at least two other websites

2. A utility for working with files of MARC records to support our library system.

I'm willing to write these apps in any way necessary, in any language. I just need them to be supportable over the long run, and they need to run on Chromebooks since that's our standard

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If you plan to use your apps in your G Suite domain and you have no plans to spread them to the World then you may be enough with Google Apps Script (https://developers.google.com/apps-script/).

If you are planning to make your apps for the World you should make a Progressive Web App (PWA) definitely. Developer Console has the best tools you can use on Chromebook which are include all Google Cloud Services, Google APIs, Google Git and Orion Code Editor (the latest could launched from Cloud Shell). accounts.google.com - Google Cloud Platform

Just noticed this blog post by google

https://blog.chromium.org/…/08/from-chrome-apps-to-web.html…

about how they're discontinuing Chrome Apps in favor of Web Apps. I know with Application Cache and the Web Storage API, most of the features of offline technology can be implemented for web applications (unless the user routinely wipes their browser's cache, which makes your app nothing like a native desktop application), but I think it's safe to assume Google isn't going to start hosting web apps like they've been hosting chrome apps... Not wanting to sound distasteful, but that's kinda shitty, this definitely sounds like a step backward in many different ways...

Followed the documentation here:

https://developer.chrome.com/apps/app_storage

having an issue with the writer.write(blob)

var blob = new Blob([JSON.stringify(data)], {type: 'text/plain'}); writableFileEntry.createWriter(function(writer) {
writer.write(blob);
});

The data being written will be written without first wiping the file, in other words, if the previous data had just one character more than the new data, that extra character will remain in the file and show up the next time I try loading the file... any ideas of how I can wipe the file before writing to it?

Isn't it just a matter of assigning a new instance of Blob to the identifier blob within the anonymous function? So before calling write() repeating the first line?
Edit: Now I get it. In C# you would specify the filemode that is passed into the streamwriter that is constructed upon the target file where one mode is Truncate as well. Ref: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.io.filemode(v=vs.110).aspx
It's as you found out already similar to this in your situation.

Anyone know how I might be able to create an App to basically create a shortcut to a Drive Folder (URL). I'd like to push this out to all my students which will give them access to a folder of files like Student Handbook, etc.. Current solution has been to just create a folder of bookmarks and push out to Chrome Browser.

You only have to create a manifest.json with this content
:
{
"name": "Name",
"description": "some description",
"version": "1.0",
"app": {
"launch": {
"web_url": "http://URL.com"
}
},
"icons": {
"128": "icon.png"
},
"manifest_version": 2
}
