I looked through the permissions list:

https://developer.chrome.com/extensions/declare_permissions

I'm trying to create an extension that would add a code snipped to the Apps Script code editor. I've got some code that finds the current cursor position, but my current manifest has no permissions, and I'm assuming that I need permission to add content to the browser page; in this case the code content section of the Apps Script editor. Do I need to set a permission? If so, which one?
Declare Permissions. To use most chrome.* APIs, your extension or app must declare its intent in the "permissions" field of the manifest. Each permission can be either one of a list of known strings (such as "geolocation") or a match pattern that gives access to one or more hosts.

I am use to Add-on development and I want to move into creating extensions. However I exclusively use Chrome OS and I switch between several Chromebooks and boxes when I develop.

What is the best tool / host for me to develop extensions and chrome web apps on Chrome OS? I would prefer a tool that stores and runs the files from a drive or another cloud hosted place, so that I can pick up where I left off, no matter which device I am on.

It is still the best option IMO. It is still getting some community updates.

Does anyone know of a good HTML editor for Chrome OS that has a preview mode? (I've been creating websites in Adobe Dreamweaver and DESPERATELY want to leave the world of Windows behind, but up to this point have not found a good alternative in the Chrome OS world.) Anyone know of something??

I'm not sure what you're asking. The way the OpenComments extension works is by posting the user's comments in a Google group and then using the subject, which includes the domain, as the key into the post.

Hello, I am trying to develop a Group Collaboration application. I have a model in mind like Conversations and messages etc. I normally model this sort of information in a sqlite db, but wasn't sure if that was appropriate or not for a chrome app. What sort of data persistence technologies do you recommend. I'd really like the app to work on all platforms, linux, mac, and windows.

I use Host Switch Plus as extension. I would love to have a visiual change, which remind me that I have overload the current domain with an HostSwitchPlus entry.
May an Chrome Extension be able to handle this?
Maybe add some light-gray text to the right side of the addressbar, color the addressbar red, or open a popover or write a small string at the upper right corner of the webpage (like: HostSwitchPlus overloaded Address)

Hope you understand what I mean.

About this community

This is a group about Chrome development. Whether it's apps, extensions or themes, whether it's on ChromeOS or the Chrome browser, all Chrome development discussions and posts are welcome here. If you have a question, try using the search bar to see if someone already asked something similar. Please don't post funny pics, videos or anything non-Chrome related. The "Apply to join" block is there to pre-filter spammers, sorry about the inconvenience. It will be opened up as soon as that feature is added to Communities.

Is there an extension that will allow a student to record an audio passage as an answer to a Google form? I think this would be really helpful for language learners or reading specialists. I saw how to embed a recording into the questions "Listen, then answer) but not into the answer.

Regarding the excellent Chrome Remote Desktop for Linux: I have several developers who are using CRD to access a virtualized (VMWare) linux machine for their development work. Once started, everything works beautifully. The problem is starting! The script runs so quickly, that it attempts to start the next Xvfb server before the previous one is actually up and running, therefore producing a lot of "unable to open display :20" error messages. I'm guessing that the increment of the display number doesn't happen when it should and there is contention for the same display number. I've looked through the start-up script but I haven't been able to suggest a fix.
Any ideas?

webviews and state persistence

I have an app that uses a webview, which is used to log into a website. I have the partition property set on the webview, and it uses "persist:somename". This used to result in preserving the logged-in state, so that when a user closes the app and opens it back up, they are still logged in.

This worked up until about a month ago, when users started reporting that they are logged out every time they restart the app.

Does anyone have any insight as to what might be happening. I checked the docs, and they still claim that setting "persistent:" at the front of the partition name is all you need to persist data in a webview.

I don't have a repro case yet. All I know is that I have not updated that app in 6+ months, and yet it stopped working pretty recently. I'll try to make a simple repro when I get time, but that might be a while.

Hello Packaged Apps! I am really glad I finally settle on Chrome platform for my forthcoming visual design tool after trying Adobe AIR, Eclipse RCP etc. Here comes RePage.

RePage will help you build modern responsive websites with ease. This is a prototype that I built using Polymer to demonstrate a cursor based editing mechanism (as opposed to Drag and Drop) for structural design. I would love to get your feedback as I work to add more Components, Layout, Styling and Integration to it. Thanks so much!
