Shawn Huckins

In the age of conquest and expansion, nation states sent explorers out on risky expeditions to the end of known frontiers, striving to unearth materials and transport routes that could help enrich the wealthy, and indirectly improve the human condition. The explorers of today include intellectuals and entrepreneurs that push the boundaries through intellectual and economic means within the new theoretical space of the digital world.

Artist Shawn Huckins’ exhibition, Everything Is Hilarious And Nothing Is Real, features a series of paintings in which he has methodical replicated famous masterpieces from American art history, then superimposed text abbreviations and slang used by the world to communicate through digital devices. These playful juxtapositions raise a very good question: is our world experiencing a disintegration of language and culture or an evolution and efficiency that may be used to benefit society as we whole?

____

Upcoming Solo Exhibition, Everything Is Hilarious And Nothing Is Real, May 5th until June 25th, 2016 at Modernism Inc. Gallery, 685 Market Street, Set 290, San Francisco, CA 94105

Opening reception: Thursday, May 5th, 2016 from 5:30-8 PM. The artist will be in attendance.
