NRNs call on exporters to launch country-specific promos

 To increase sales of Nepali products in the foreign market, exporters need to launch target specific promotional campaigns for which Nepali diaspora can extend support, according to Non Resident Nepalis.

“Though the job of marketing and promotion of products in the foreign land are responsibilities of exporters and manufacturers, NRNs can provide additional logistic support by extending information regarding the place, business opportunities, and even helping with accommodation among other things,” said president of NRN Association Jiba Lamichhane during an interaction between NRNs and the Nepali business community organised by the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry today....

I got my NRN card from the embassy in DC without having to "Parityag" my Nepali citizenship.  Anyways, as NRN card holder can I inherit my share of the ancestral properties in Nepal? I would like to keep the property in Nepal. Any ideas??

Indian NRNs to fight for voting rights

KATHMANDU: Nepali migrants in India have warned of protest if the government fails to guarantee their rights to vote from the country they are residing.

Leaders of three organisations working to ensure rights of Nepali migrants in India on Friday said that that they would launch protest programme as according to them, the government is likely to ignore their demands.

Speaking at an interaction programme at Reporters Club here on Friday, Chairman of Nepali Janasamparka Samiti Bal Krishna Pandey said “We would be forced to launch agitations if the government fails to guarantee our demands.” 

According to him, the protest programme would include picketing Nepali Embassy in India, stopping remittance, staging sit-in at Indo-Nepal border among others.

Pandey vented his ire at the government saying that the government has neglected rights to vote of Nepali residing abroad.

Likewise, Chairman of Prabasi Nepali Sangh Loknath Bhandari said argued that they demand is an inborn right and urged the government to guarantee it.

Also speaking at the programme, advisor to Mul Prabah Akhil Bharat Nepali Ekata Samaj Mitra Lala Sharma blamed major political parties of being irresponsible towards ensuring voting rights of Nepalis living abroad.

Nepal among top remittance receivers in LDCs

Nepal is the second largest remittance receiver among the Least Developed Countries (LDCs), according to a latest United Nations report.

“Of the total $27 billion remittance received by LDCs in 2011, Nepal stands second to Bangladesh,” said the Least Developed Countries Report 2012 ‘Harnessing Remittance and Diaspora Knowledge to Build Productive Capacities’, released here today.....

Cabinet forms panel to facilitate NRN convention

KATHMANDU: A cabinet meeting today decided to form a 30-member committee headed by Minister for Foreign Affairs Madhav Ghimire to facilitate the sixth Global Convention of Non-Resident Nepali Association to be held in Kathmandu from October 21 to 22. 

The Cabinet also decided to receive Rs 3.7 billion from Asian Development Bank as grant for Bagmati River Area Improvement Project after talks with ADB, said Minister for Information and Communications Madhav Paudel. 

A delegation led by Chairman of Council of Ministers Khil Raj Regmi will participate in the 68th UN General Assembly to be held in New York from September 24 to October 4 according to the minister. 

The cabinet decided to approve the ordinance on witchcraft action and crime after further discussion. 

Minister for Women Children and Social Welfare Riddhi Baba Pradhan had tabled the ordinance at today’s Cabinet.

NRNs focus on trilateral economic cooperation

MANILA, May 22: Non-Resident Nepalis have urged for trilateral cooperation among Nepal, India and China for economic development of the country. 
"There should be strong trilateral cooperation among the three countries in order to accelerate economic growth in Nepal," Upendra Mahato, founding president of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) said at a regional meeting of NRNA here.
