Indian NRNs to fight for voting rights
KATHMANDU: Nepali migrants in India have warned of protest if the government fails to guarantee their rights to vote from the country they are residing.
Leaders of three organisations working to ensure rights of Nepali migrants in India on Friday said that that they would launch protest programme as according to them, the government is likely to ignore their demands.
Speaking at an interaction programme at Reporters Club here on Friday, Chairman of Nepali Janasamparka Samiti Bal Krishna Pandey said “We would be forced to launch agitations if the government fails to guarantee our demands.”
According to him, the protest programme would include picketing Nepali Embassy in India, stopping remittance, staging sit-in at Indo-Nepal border among others.
Pandey vented his ire at the government saying that the government has neglected rights to vote of Nepali residing abroad.
Likewise, Chairman of Prabasi Nepali Sangh Loknath Bhandari said argued that they demand is an inborn right and urged the government to guarantee it.
Also speaking at the programme, advisor to Mul Prabah Akhil Bharat Nepali Ekata Samaj Mitra Lala Sharma blamed major political parties of being irresponsible towards ensuring voting rights of Nepalis living abroad.
