Even the deadbeat Deplorables in red state Indiana somehow find the money to buy weapons while their kids don't have enough food to eat.

Where do the presidential candidates stand on guns?
The right to bear arms is fundamental to the U.S. But after a seemingly endless stretch of violence, Americans are confronting how far those rights extend, propelling gun issues to the forefront of this year's elections.

Over time, some Americans have started to believe that a self-made man should also be a selfish man. That a millionaire shouldn’t pay taxes because they’ll only be “squandered,” that a smart businessman roots for the economy to collapse so he can buy real estate cheaply, that taxes on business should be lowered so the wealthy can do better. In much of America, that attitude is regarded as an important component of how a self-made man succeeds—applauded, because it’s thought to be a sign of the vigor of America.

But plenty of millionaires feel differently. Some contest the notion of a self-made man altogether, arguing that anyone successful has relied on government spending—infrastructure, an educated workforce, enforceable contracts—to make their mark. Some of them even believe that paying more taxes and investing in public services is the way to more prosperity—for everyone. “What I’m talking about is what policies will not just help me personally, but that I think will be good for our country and my kids' generation,” Morris Pearl, a former managing director at the investment fund BlackRock, told me. He added, “I don’t want to live in a country where a few people do amazingly well and everyone else does poorly, because anyone, including me and my kids, may end up not being one of the winners.”

It looks like Trump and the new GOP has lost the likes of Senator Warner.

The Greatest Generation. Endured Depression, fought Hitler, contained communism, desegregated and began a long, slow fight against the prejudices their parents had taught them. Deeply flawed! We Boomers had some legit complaints... and some overblown ones. But back then Republicans included at least some who loved science and progress and logic and facts and civility and negotiation... all of which have been eviscerated by Fox & pals.

Read about former GOP Virginia senator, WWII vet and Armed Services chairman John Warner calling Hillary Clinton eminently qualified and calling on all Republicans to wake up from the confederate fever that has them floundering in know-nothing mania.

By the way, the 1950s & 60s that Fox idolizes as great days of capitalism? That happened under New Deal tax rates. And the favorite living person of the Greatest Generation? It was Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Live with it.

John Warner’s endorsement of the Democratic ticket was a reminder of everything the GOP nominee is not.

Labor  -

“This is really part of a broader conversation across America about what a 21st-century social compact should look like,” Thomas E. Perez, the labor secretary, said in an interview. “Back in the day, when Beaver Cleaver got sick and June Cleaver was home, who takes off to stay with the Beav was a nonissue. In today’s world of dual-career couples in the work force, our public policy has not caught up.”

The Obama administration, in its latest effort to update workplace policies it says have lagged far behind the realities of Americans’ lives, will require federal government contractors to provide paid sick leave to their workers. The rule, which was issued on Thursday and which the Labor Department estimates will directly impact more than 1.1 million people once fully in effect, enables workers to accrue up to seven days of paid sick leave a year.

Pay equity has been an important issue for the Obama administration since Day One—literally, since the first bill the president signed into law was the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, giving workers more time to file pay-discrimination lawsuits.

“Formal policies can help equalize pay structures for men and women, but they are only part of the equation. Pay equity has been an important issue for the Obama administration since Day One — literally, since the first bill the president signed into law was the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, giving workers more time to file pay-discrimination lawsuits. But it wasn’t until Salesforce.com Inc. announced last year that it would spend $3 million adjusting salaries to ensure its female and male employees received equal pay for equal work that U.S. companies seemed to start paying attention. Since then, large employers such as Apple, Staples, eBay, Dow Jones, and others have declared their commitment to rooting out gender-pay disparities — albeit sometimes under pressure.”

Are highly publicized incidents of police brutality and police shootings making black Americans less likely to reach out to police? Do residents of affected communities fear calling 911 to report crimes? Might the fear of a situation ending tragically prevent even people who might be in some danger from involving their local police force?

The Pew report offers some insight into these hard-to-answer questions. Three quarters of white respondents rate as police work as “excellentin terms of using the “right amount of force for each situation.” Only a third of blacks share this view, and two thirds say the police do only a “fair or poor jobin this regard. Among Latinos, two thirds say police are doing “at least a good job,” while just over a third rate them as “only a fair or poor.”

I steal your TV, they sending me up the river. CEO steals millions, he gets a hearing and is allowed to go on as business as usual.

They're taking money out of our pockets, cops killing black folks like wild game but we're mad at a guy for kneeling during the National Anthem. Murica.

U.S. Navy ship USS Green Bay Bay launches a RIM-116 Rolling Airframe Missile (RAM) for a live-fire exercise. The missile is so-named because it rolls around its longitudinal axis to stabilize its flight path, much like a bullet fired from a rifled barrel.
