This Peppered variety from Ryder's Savage Jerky delivers a light black pepper flavor, though can produce more when biting down into a cracked pepper corn. Otherwise, this jerky is more weighted towards a sweet, soy sauce-forward profile that fans in the Deep South would find very popular. It has a more fresh, small-batch character than the larger, corporate brands, and still feels and chews like pieces of real steak. It has that homemade taste and texture because that's what it is, homemade. It tends to be, however, salty. But then again, that might be just fine for snackers whose taste buds have been worn down by years of moonshine and chewing tobacco. This Carolina Reaper beef jerky from Jeff's Famous Jerky delivers a ton of heat and doesn't waste time getting there. This jerky also delivers the full, rich flavor of Carolina Reaper chiles, with its pungent, earthy, yet floral signature. Fans of chile peppers will also get that endorphin rush that comes with the Reaper's capsaicin surge. But this jerky is more than just a fiery-hot chile pepper, it's actually based on a great teriyaki marinade and meat consistency that Jeff's Famous Jerky is known for. I love the tangy chewing, fruity character, and the soft, steak-like chewing texture. You can't go wrong with any of Jeff's Famous Jerky varieties, but if seething hot meat snacks is your game, you can't go wrong with this Carolina Reaper choice. This Hot Cowgirl Beef Jerky from The Jerky Hut reminds me much of the company's Cowboy Beef Jerky, but spiced up with fair amount of red chile pepper flakes. You get a decent amount of heat, enough to produce tingling on the scalp and a moistness on the brow. For the most part, it tastes and chews like an old fashioned style jerky, perhaps something you'd associate with the Old West, but hot and sassy like a six-shootin' sweetheart. The addition of corn syrup solids makes this only faintly sweet, though moderately salted, and might make an option as a keto diet snack.
