I recommend an old school singer like those they used to use in home ec classes.  They are all metal and nearly indestructible.  Because they were built for classroom use, they are stripped down and straightforward.  Check thrift stores.  I got mine for $7.

Art & Design  -

The kids and I used canvas and painters tape to make this birthday present for taita (Arabic for grandmother) last year. I'd love to hear what you think of it.

Painters Tape Allah Canvas Art - http://acraftyarab.blogspot.com/2014/12/painters-tape-canvas-art.html

Hello, I am building a simulation city in my classroom's maker's space. It will be built out of cardboard and students will also be using circuits for the lighting. Has anyone ever done this sort of thing? Any suggestions? The objective is to keep the citizens in the city happy, but most importantly getting students to problem solve collaboratively.

I am late to this conversation, but what if they built some mini-wind turbines to power the LEDs. KidWind (http://www.kidwind.org/) sells kits but you could easily make your own using cheap motors.

My 7 year old son has been designing a dog robot for ages. He has diagrams with all the features it will have. We've done some prototyping and settled on a combination of an mBot base plus Meccano (Erector) to create a dog sh...

The world of 3D Printing is About to Get Way More Kid Friendly

+The Mattel Toy Store will soon release an affordable $300 #3Dprinter  Toy Studio for Kids. It will pair with the current ThingMaker Design app for #iOS  and #Android  to allow for easy #3Ddesign  and printing.

#MakerEd
One of the world’s largest toy makers, Mattel, has long embraced the idea of helping kids build their own toys. Back in the 1960s, the company released the very first ThingMaker, which let kids create figurines by pouring liquid plastic into molds and then heating them up in an oven. Now, Mattel thinks it can bring back the toymaker movement with its own affordable 3D printer.

Our Tinker Studio Team of K-8, MS & HS teachers have created a maker-stem projects site that also addresses curriculum connections(k-12) with examples.
http://tinker-studio.weebly.com/

Projects with categories from paper to electronics are posted that can be considered.  We are trying to focus on curriculum and in classroom connections.

Resources and lesson plans as they become available are also added.

We found that providing challenge area or challenge boxes or running a challenge day really helps get students and teachers involved.

If you have projects that we can add, please let us know.

The silly childish chain mail & X rated links r annoying. Jeez. They r fun if u r 5 years old.
Do u have a way to pre screen postings before they go out to the community?
I think they sit around for a while before they get purged.
I hope u ban the senders of these offensive postings from your site.

Any tips for 3D printing a sphere?

One of my students would like to try to #3Dprint a sphere to house his speaker project. Does anyone have any tips or advise for him? If so, can you please comment within his Build in Progress page?

Thanks in advance!

I am conducting a survey about Makerspaces in schools as a part of a research project at Zurich International School. It would be great if you can take a minute and fill out this survey for me. Thank you very much! http://goo.gl/forms/raLXiDd3od
