Jason Grace: Had a cuckoo mother, taken care by his sister, abandoned by his mom in a house full of wolves that would snack in him if he showed any fear, lost his sister, raised by wolves, joined the 5th Cohort at first, is probably looked up upon hundreds of people, became praetor through his parental lineage and competence, temporarily returned the 5th Cohort to its glory, defeated Krios and destroyed Kronos' s throne, gets brainwashed, returned to his home just to be a runaway from it, saw a forced coming out from a guy he feared and comforted him, is deemed unworthy of attention of undead roman soldiers despite growing up in Rome, met his mom (who's still an asshole), got stabbed, watched his friend die in an explosion
Also Jason Grace: Still manages to be a sweetheart
Fandom: Percy is better! Gtfo Jason
Pls protect him

OKAY BUT CAN WE JUST TALK ABOUT SOMETHING REAL IMPORTANT FOR A SECOND?
So Hera/Juno abducted Jason from Thalia when he was two. Thalia ran away. She then spent all of the PJO series keeping Jason a secret, and I don't think we quite acknowledge this enough.
So of course, this factors into her pre-camp/Hunt days, when she was on the run with Luke and little seven-year -old Annabeth, who was only a year older than Jason would have been. Thalia was probably the one to mostly take care of Annabeth domestically, brushing and washing the hair, patching up her wounds with a bandage and a kiss, playing games with her, making a rule for Luke and herself that any area within a 30 foot radius of a conscious Annabeth is a strict no-cursing zone, making sure that Annabeth got enough to eat, including vegetables (Luke protests at this new addition to their previously candy-and-junk diet. Thalia just glares at him. He eats his vegetables). Annabeth looked up to and admired Luke, but Thalia was totally her motherly older sister. Luke occasionally asks Thalia how she is so good with kids. She just uncomfortably replies that it must be maternal instincts.
Then she sacrifices herself on Half-Blood hill, because she doesn't want any of her other sibling to die. Not again.
If she had any sentient thoughts as a tree, they were probably "DAMMIT DAD I WAS HALF LOOKING FORWARD TO THE UNDERWORLD BECAUSE I WANTED TO LOOK FOR JASON IS THAT TO MUCH TO ASK FOR?!"
Then she comes back to human form, just in time for the Titian's Curse.
(Side-note: in the Demigod Diaries, some of you may have noticed the little Easter egg in "The Sword of Hades", where Percy notices Thalia looking around Asphodel. Percy assumes that she is looking for her mother, but she's probably looking for Jason. Okay, back to the main script.)
NICO.
Percy, Annabeth, and Thalia meet Grover at Westover Hall, to pick up a certain Nico and Bianca di Angelo. And you just know, when Thalia saw them, saw bright, energetic Nico, and Bianca's exasperation yet love towards him...she probably felt a twinge of sadness, and maybe even jealously. She saw them, and thought "SHE didn't fail her brother. She'll be there to help her brother grow up into a strong, spunky, happy little demigod."
Then Bianca died. And Thalia was sad, not only for Bianca, but for Nico. She knew that this would break his heart. And I think that as she said the vows to become a Huntress, she thought, with faint relief, that she would not have to see Nico's reaction.
(Side-note #2: As Thalia listened to some of her sisters-in-arms talks about the boys that broke their hearts, she thinks "A boy broke my heart too. But it wasn't his fault. And I still love him." )
Then she saw Nico, all that time later, and I think that her heart broke a bit more at how much he had changed. And maybe, some of her thought's she'd sometimes had came back, that perhaps Jason didn't die, perhaps he'd just gotten lost, and somehow still survived. What if he had grown angry and alone, like Nico. What if he felt like Thalia had failed him?
Then she chides those thoughts away. Jason is dead, and there's no sense in pretending otherwise.
Then she finds out that Jason is alive. He's tall, strong, respectful, (actually looks a bit like Luke), and he has amnesia but he remembers her. And he doesn't hate her.
And I don't think that Rick quite captured her reaction quite enough.
I just - GAH.
THALIA.
