A Method Of Winning New Google+ Users

I have been working out different ways to get people from my 850 Facebook friends and 1300 members of my facebook Group to join G+ and I recently found a way that seems to be working quite nicely and steadily

I realized that asking them (sometimes at the expense of appearing to be almost begging) wasn't working, so I decided to create a Google+ Community that was a mirrored version of on my Facebook Group.

Only that the G+ community has several advantages over it's facebook archetype. So since the community is about football (which is soccer by the way) I tried to win them over by using animated GIFs of soccer players scoring great goals and sharing the post on facebook, but that didn't really work much. But one good news here is that Facebook somehow allows for Google+ posts to appear with a still image from the GIF on facebook (doesn't work the other round though. Images from facebook posts or even the text do not appear on Google+  - And I wonder if Google did that deliberately. hmmmmm).

Anyway, so recently I got it!!!

I decided to start re-posting some of the most interesting comments of some of our members of the group into the G+ community then reshare that to the Facebook group. This was intended to attract the attention of the original author of the comment/argument first, then others later.

I've done this about 4 times, and each time the member has created a Google+ profile just so that he can join the Community. hahaa! The next step is to encourage them to create their content with animated GIFs on G+ then share on facebook. One of them is doing this already without my asking ;)

I plan to take this further by making some of them become Communications Managers of the Google Page that I created to manage the community.

Anyway, I just felt I should share this with this community, incase some of you are scratching your heads wondering what you can add to your strategies on getting some of your BEST engagers on other social networks to come join you in the best network for engagement.

...I meant Google+ by the way! lol

:)

Please share with me also your own strategies on getting your FB/Twitter friends to join you on G+. Thank you. :)

Helpful hints on how to post effectively on Google+ from +Brian Jensen

Google+: Looking Behind The Scenes of Profiles and Posts

I love Google+. In addition to using it for content discovery, this rapidly growing social network is an incredible tool for micro blogging, networking and relationship building.

While Google+ can effectively be used as a micro blogging platform, it lacks many of the features that give blog owners using a CMS more control of the HTML elements, tags and styling of their blog.

To help Google+ users understand what is happening behind the scenes, I’ve dug into the source code of Google+ posts and pages to show you elements that affect how your posts appear in Google+ and in Google Search. In this guide, you’ll learn what tags are added automatically and how to optimize the elements you have control over including:

☞ Titles
☞ Meta descriptions
☞ Canonical tags
☞ Alt attributes
☞ No follow attributes
☞ Rel=author
☞ Target="_blank"

Most informative article by +AJ Kohn about SEO and social signals. Check it out.

The Totally Mathematical Reason Why Social Matters to SEO

+AJ Kohn with the most elegant explanation I've seen so far of what I've  been telling you all along: yes social media can affect your search rankings, but no, it is not because social signals affect search rankings (directly).

AJ explains why a combination of truly worthwhile content with a large number of social shares from a real social audience will almost inevitably lead to some things that are actual ranking signals.

As I said in a comment on his post, this is the one to bookmark so you can say, "I'll just point you to this" whenever debates about the SEO value of social signals come up.
