A new affordable brunch plate at Coffee spot Cafe Lumiere.  They have upstairs and downstairs tables.

I think you can just come and order a beverage.

One of my favorite places is Carmel Valley!

I go at least twice a month. It is always a lot sunnier, they have a laid-back vibe and the dining venues are fresh, and creative.

So I was looking forward to the Plein Air Art Event on March 22, 2014.

If you missed this, you definitely missed a beautiful day. The weather was sunny but a breeze kept it from being too hot (it can be TOO hot here quite a bit).

It's the beginning of spring, and colorful flowers are starting to show up. The business owners take good care of the grounds here. There's a viny trellis here, a fountain there.

I got there about 45 minutes early and one member was there and the Thai Village was closed. How embarassing, I had reservations.

We got lucky and found the other member...but for future events I think I'll need to collect contact info. Also I will keep checking comments. Im glad Im in the habit of going early though.

Back to the event. We decided to go to Vineyard Bistro. I went there for the first time the other day and already went back. Fresh, delicious and not too pricey. It is pricey, just not too pricey.

After lunch we window-shopped. Casa Del Sol moved into the 'hood and had a guitarist outside.

We did not even sample the olive oils ....

The time was passing and I felt the pull of the wine tasting rooms. We checked out about three of 'em and went back to Cowgirl. Fun atmosphere and great view of the mountains.

The finishing touch was the chicken pecking around the outdoor patio.

I hope to do more day trips. There were only 4 rsvp's. It does not take a lot of people to make a fun meetup, and this was one of my favorites so far.

Other ideas for daytrips:

Thrift shops on lighthouse in Monterey, then sushi

Antique-ing in Moss Landing, then brunch

On a cold morning five years ago this week, six actors and five pieces of cardboard made an otherwise dreary commute into something awesome.
