WWDC Keynote viewing in Zürich
For those of you interested in multiple platforms... Following the success of the I/O Extended a couple of weeks ago, the local.ch mobile engineering team are hosting a WWDC Keynote viewing event. (Free beer and pizza and great people to hang out with!) https://www.eventbrite.com/e/wwdc-kickoff-public-viewing-with-beer-pizza-tickets-25865269718?aff=es2 #wwdc #Keynote #Zürich
Okay, so you didn't make it to WWDC in San Francisco this year either. Join the rest of us to follow the kickoff (keynote) live stream. It might just even be better than actually being there, since there's drinks, snacks and pizza on hand (sponsored by local.ch, of course). Lively discussions afterwards about Apple platforms and tech in general. Disclaimers: You may be asked random geeky questions before being let in. This is a deliberate us...

Polymer App Toolbox

Making building progressive web apps with Polymer even easier than it already was.

My personal favourites are app-layout which I'm already using extensively, and the new CLI tool (instead of having several different tools).

And having "polymer build" create all the necessary service worker code for your app to work offline is awesome!
Polymer is a library that uses the latest web technologies to let you create custom HTML elements. Build anything from a button to a complete application as an encapsulated, reusable component that works across desktop and mobile.

They've already posted our What's New in Android talk. They're getting so fast at posting the session videos, next year they'll probably post it before it happens. Then we can just show the video instead.

Go for the web

More and more people switch to Go for backend applications. One big area is web development and APIs. Go is a perfect fit for current microservice patterns by being simple and performant. In addition, with its great standard library and many third party packages Go is ready for the future. The next Go version will support HTTP/2 by default. In this talk we want to introduce you to how you can get started using Go in the web.

Virtual Reality with WebVR and Google Cardboard

With Google Cardboard there’s a cheap solution for bringing VR to your users – and it rocks!
In this talk I’ll show you how you can build WebGL apps that work nice on mobile and extend them to provide Virtual Reality for Google Cardboard and WebVR browsers (very, very, VERY experimental Chrome Builds) for the Oculus Rift and what you can do with them.
There shall be live code and a lot of showcase examples.

We have a carton full of Cardboards to hand out that you can actually enjoy the examples directly during the DevFest.

Most developers these days have heard of machine learning, but when trying to find an 'easy' way into this technique, most people find themselves getting scared off by the abstractness of the concept of Machine Learning and terms as regression, unsupervised learning, Probability Density Function ...

Android audio and video specialists - save the date & get ready to learn from +Dubsmash App developer +Richard Meissner and Google Developer Advocate Marc Bächinger about video topics on Android.

Join us for our Android Audio&Video Meetup on Monday, 27.6.2016 at Dubsmash HQ in Berlin.

Audio & Video plays an important role at Dubsmash. While building our fast growing video communication platform, we haven't found the right forum for people in the mobile video and audio space to exchange ideas, experiences and to present interesting work in Berlin. Therefore we thought, that we can kick-start the Android Audio & Video Meetup on our own and hope to see some talented developers joining the talks. We will have two presentation, eac...

This time, we start early with the CfP for the DevFest 2016...
For now, there is no set date but feel free to already submit a topic if you already planned a talk (especially those that go on tour with it) and we will get back to you next year when we decide on the exact date. A good bet is that it will be again somewhen around November.
Please send us the details of your talk. DevFest 2016 Sessions day will be communicated once decided, timeframe will be November 2016. All that fill the CfP now will get contacted later in 2016 when we have an actual date to confirm if you are available or not. * Erforderlich. Bild ohne Titel ...

Automation Framework Essentials - Scale to performance

I will give you some insights from my experience working as a Software Engineer in Test during the past 10 years. I have seen many framework popping up and going down, often they come up with high promises but are fast proven wrong when they are used in the field under real world conditions in a complex system landscape with hundreds of applications working together. What are common pitfalls and how can you avoid them with using / developing the right tool set.

Thanks to +Ramón Medrano Llamas we will have a talk about Engineering Reliability at Google.

Building a useful application is part of the challenge. Scaling it up to size at Google is the other part, and it’s where SRE (Site Reliability Engineering) is coming into the picture. This talk gives an overview on the technologies and software design patterns that SREs use to make sure that Google’s applications run fast and reliable at full scale.
