Here's my recap of the 2017 Social Media Boot Camp workshop in Honolulu. Mahalo +SMCHI - Social Media Club Hawaii leaders on another excellent learning event.

Lessons learned at Social Recruiting workshop in Honolulu.

Hawaii’s leading social media workshop for employers opened with an eye-opening look at how video is being used to communicate workstyles and company values, promote career opportunities and events such as job fairs, and storytelling.

I'd like to see SMCHI do a program on how the media now SHAPES the news rather than report on it. Indeed, news itself is all editorial now.
No matter your political leanings, is it right that the media now SHAPES the news rather than reporting it? Shouldn't it at least be labeled EDITIORIAL?

Several former Facebook “news curators” were instructed to artificially “inject” selected stories into trending news, even if they weren’t popular enough to warrant inclusion—or in some cases weren’t trending at all.

Has social media replaced the cold call for networking, introductions, and sales leads?

Is it just me or is Google Plus a magnet for fake profiles? I am a late adopter of this platform and have to say in the last year or so that I've been on G+ I have seen more porn, gotten more fake followers (especially fake soldiers) and men or women obviously using G+ as a dating site.

It it tedious to check them out & block them - and I feel like G+ does a piss poor job of policing this service compared to Facebook or even Twitter. And G+ does not hold a candle to LinkedIn where fake profiles are quickly purged.

And an even bigger pet peeve is this notion that social media somehow adds more "transparency" or "authenticity" to companies and individuals. I find nothing could be further from the truth. Just ask any pedophile that's been lured to justice by a cop posing as a 12-year old on FB, or Mantai Teo how his engagement to a fake fiance worked out for him. There is more falsehood and fraud on the internet and social channels than in real life because it's ridiculously easy to do.

Any thoughts on how social channels can do a better job of policing themselves or how organizations like SMC can tackle this growing problem?
