It doesn't have to get ugly. You can choose a #CollaboraticeDivorce  or use a Mediator to settle disputes that stall a divorce.

#CollaborativeLaw - the parties each hire an attorney trained in collaborative law in an effort to resolve differences without having to rely on the judge to decide. Should one party want out of the collaboration, both attorneys must resign, and the parties are left to hire new attorneys in preparation for trial.

Mediation - the parties use one Mediator, who shuttles between the parties trying to reach agreement on disputes, so that a settlement agreement can be reached.

Both annulments and divorces end marriages in this state. An annulment voids a marriage that should never taken place, or invalidates a marriage that became voidable.

To get an #Annulment, one must select from the list of approved grounds, and then present evidence to the court that proves your contention that your marriage should be annulled. Read the info in the two links below:

#SpousalSupport can be:

1. denied
2. granted only during the divorce process
3. granted as rehabilitative (specific amount of time)
4. indefinite support

How the court rules will be dependent on a variety of factors, including how long the marriage lasted and the ability of each party to be or become self-sufficient.

Iowa uses the "Equitable Distribution" method of dividing marital assets (and debt). The court will make the division in a fair and equitable manner, although such division is unlikely to be in equal portions.
