I was attempting to use the Read-Only TWRP feature on a Pixel. Long story short - fumbled my way to installing TWRP. Went back succesfully flashed stock image on device. However, in the process I now have 9 GB less internal storage (as in it states I am using 9 of an available 119 - my Pixel should have 128). I'm assuming this missing space is the former system? Would anyone have any advice solutions for how I might regain that missing storage on the device? Thanks!

+George Zacharia so you're saying it's normal to show 110 free on a factory reset device? 18 GB are tied up as system data? My device only showing 110 as user available storage +Jimmy G. Thank you both, by the way.

Pixel XL bricked by switching to Slot B in TWRP. No access to fastboot, adb, or bootloader or recovery.

Hey,
I just wanted to inform you about an issue that happens in TWRP. I just bricked my Pixel by switching to slot B without flashing a bootloader in slot B. I think TWRP should inform the user that rebooting will brick the device. What are your thought on that? It could be done similar to how TWRP informs the user to install supersu if the phone isnt rooted.
This would be really helpful as it would prevent many people like myself from bricking their phones.

Now if I connect my pixel it only shows Qualcomm HS-USB Diagnostics 900E (COM3). No bootloader, fastboot, or recovery is present.

Here are a coupe of links of other people that did the same thing:

Thanks!

I asked this before, but did not get a useful response:

When I boot into TWRP on my Mi4 cancro, the screen is very dark to barely readable. This is not affected by brightness settings under TWRP options.

If I use Cyanogenmod, also the whole OS is very dark after booting and this again is not affected by the system's brightness settings.
If I install MIUI, TWRP still is very dark, but after booting MIUI shows normal brightness.

For everyone following this: I managed to solve the problem by flashing this kernel after flashing CM: androidfilehost.com - ZeurionX-V2.5-Nougat-08-28-16.zip | by Shahan_mik3 for Mi 3

Little downside is; the kernel has a double-tap-to-wake-feature, which gives me some random unlocks in my pocket.

Just installed TWRP on my way to CyanogenMod on a brand spanking new OnePlus 3. I'm a bit confused by the splash screen in the fresh TWRP. I don't give a toot about official updates, as I'll be on CM, but I can't figure out which is better: Keep Read Only or Allow Modifications.... help! I don't ever plan to update via OTA, and I'll be fine if I can't use delta updates(not sure if CM even does those).

I have a Galaxy Note 8 4G tablet (model N 5120). TWRP support other versions of the Note 8 (N 5100 and 5110) but not N5120. Is there any chance you could add support for this version of the Note 8 as well? thanks! Tony

Hi, I just wanted to follow up my earlier question. Am I right in understanding that TWRP did support the Galaxy Note 8 4G (n5120), but no longer does?

Hey folks, having a weird issue with TWRP 3.0.2-0 on my Nexus 6 (shamu) running CyanogenMod 13, and I thought I'd see if could get any help here.

I'm trying to update to the latest CM13 snapshot. When TWRP loads, it asks for a password, so I input my PIN. After this, TWRP reports it had successfully decrypted my device, but immediately freezes afterward, then reboots my phone. This seems to happen regardless of how I start TWRP, whether the CM system updater reboots to it or I reboot manually.

Canceling the password request seems to allow TWRP to continue, however. At this point, I suppose I could just load up the CM13 image manually and flash it, but I want to be sure: will this be okay with my data still encrypted?

Thanks in advance for any insight into the apparent TWRP crash or my situation.

Nexus 6 TWRP 3.0.3-0:
1. USB OTG is not working
2. Rebooting to recovery after flashing a recovery image, reboots to system.

It seems as if the so-called and promoted as "generic" TWRP installers pass along malware but don't actually install anything useful on an MTK 6580 chipset phone. Any alternatives? Specifically, if one were to find a "listed" phone with essentially the same hardware, any chance it might work?

Ruben, many thanks for the swift response.  Any suggestions for where a relative newbie could get some detailed background rather than wasting everyone's time asking for his hand to be held?

I have yet to successfully restore CM13 via TWRP from a backup I made myself explicitly for the purpose of restore testing. It looks like my failures are occurring within CM13 after the restore appears to have been successful inside TWRP. I do not suspect an issue with TWRP, but I want to make sure I'm covering all the bases, so-to-speak.

Should a Release version of CM13(snapshot 8/17) be compatible with TWRP's backup/restore?

You have to format your data partition through twrp and make sure to have a cm13 variation without force encryption enabled and you'll be golden

Hello, guys!

Could someone help me with installing twrp on my Huawei Honor 4X (Che2-L11)?

I unlocked the bootloader (asked Huawei for a password).

I can boot either the stock system (EMUI), the bootloader (fastboot) or the stock recovery (Huawei eRecovery).

I try to install twrp by booting to fastboot (either by holding the DOWN button or by issuing "adb reboot bootloader") and issuing "fastboot flash recovery twrp-*.img".

Fastboot tells me:

C:\ADB\tools>fastboot flash recovery ..\twrp.img
sending 'recovery' (25034 KB)...
OKAY [ 0.580s]
writing 'recovery'...
OKAY [ 1.034s]
finished. total time: 1.615s

Then I say: "fastboot reboot" and hold the UP button, and the phone boots to ... stock Huawei eRecovery.

What can I do?

How does it happen that the fastboot command doesn't actually reflash the recovery partition?

I run it from the administrator console. My drivers are stock Huawei drivers installed with the standard Huawei HiSuite.

Help me, please.

Asked myself -- answered myself.

After you flash the recovery and issue the reboot command, QUICKLY unplug the phone!

Hi all - longtime user of TWRP. I'm having a terrible time going from stock to TWRP on my bullhead w/ Nougat September update. I've flashed TWRP/rebooted in every combination you can think of, but after I do a full reboot it reverts to stock! I know in previous iterations there was a system modification, but don't get asked that anymore. Can anyone help? Thanks!

If you want to do it without rooting your system, adb shell into your device while its in recovery (or remount system as rw) and run "rm /system/etc/install-recovery.sh && touch /system/etc/install-recovery.sh" as root. Then you can happily unroot your phone.

Now i have no recovery at all on my trusty mtk-6572 zte blade L5 :(

This Community is to cover topics of TWRP Recovery on Officially supported devices, not how to root or flash Roms on x y phones.

First off I suggest you
Read The Pinned Post ,

Then check here to see if your device is supported,
> http://twrp.me

If your device is not Listed, then I suggest you check XDA for an unofficial personal build.

If still you find nothing my last piece of advice is...
If you plan on wanting to Root or modify a device then you should apply these considerations onto your next purchase.

Buy a device that is already, or will be popular with Custom Rom Development , one that already has or is planned to have, Official TWRP support.
Example...Nexus.

N00b question prob. I installed TWRP 2.7.0.0 on my Verizon LG G2 (VS980 a.k.a. g2vzw) with AutoRec KitKat (I used to run stock 4.2.2 KitKat). The latest version supporting my smartphone is 2.8.6.0 anyway... See https://dl.twrp.me/g2vzw/

I now flashed a custom 5.1.1 LolliPop ROM with TWRP. My Q is can I now use TWRP to update itself to the latest version (3.0.2-0 at the time of writing)? Or will that not work... I'm afraid to try it and that it will brick or something.

Thanks!

p.s. The reason I want to update TWRP is because the ROM I flashed (Euphoria 1.1) is now abandoned and also it didn't come with root access... I want to try a newer ROM and some installation instructions I've read ask for more recent TWRP versions.
