We people are visual creatures: We {like to see the impact of an idea rather than just hearing about it, which will help to reveal our current fascination with YouTube, Pinterest, and Instagram. Photos, as it turns out, explain an idea much better than rhetoric alone. http://freetemplatedepot.com/design-tips/how-to-get-free-images-for-your-website-tip-tools-more/

12-Year-Old Gets A New Hand, Thanks To A 3-D Printer  (via +The Huffington Post)

Born without fingers on either hand, Stevenson Joseph had little hope of treatment in a country where programs for the disabled are rare apart from a handful of charities.

Now the 3-D #prosthesis fitted to his left hand has given him a whole new range of dexterity, including being able to play catch with his friends for the first time and maybe even enabling him to write one day, according to staff at the home for disabled orphans where he lives.

Things to consider if you are actively using social media professionally.
My take home thoughts:
-Look at library page on mobile devices
-Investigate YouTube for archiving help tutorials
-Think about how to reach institutional users via social media

I just reviewed Andrew's Flipped classroom presentation... I think I added about 20 bookmarks to Diigo. Also, I think +Andrew Youngkin is a major Google+ fan based on the social history image.

It's been awhile since I've posted... so without further ado I give you the +PubMed – Unbound MEDLINE  Medline Search of the Week

This morning I was invited to a Social Media in Healthcare Google Hangout hosted by +Kathi Browne.  In doing research for the event, I entered the following search:

"social media" OR "facebook" OR "twitter" OR "google plus" OR "linkedin" OR "YouTube"

This resulted in 2,375 search results.  A good amount of research was geared to using social media to deliver Public Health information. Other research topics included clinician or student use of social media, emergency preparedness using social media, use of social media by a specialty, and much more.  Research in this area seems to be new and very active. #pubmed   #medline   #socialmedia   #mobileapps   #android   #iosapps

There is a lot of interest in this topic +Christopher Garriga. People often think social media is only a marketing tool. At the end of last year, I held a hangout on air that acted as a virtual journal club. I spoke with the author of an interesting journal article while viewers posted questions. This is the quickest way to get information out there quickly, when it's needed and in front of the people looking for it.

Imagine if medical libraries held a "What's News in Medical Libraries" like I do for "What's News in Healthcare Social Media!"
