The Downtown Disney® District at the  Disneyland® Resort is always our first and last stop when vacationing at the Happiest Place on Earth.  Why?  Wonderful shopping, fantastic dining, and fun entertainment abound.  It adds a little extra delight and magic to our holiday!  How about you? Is Downtown Disney a must-see-and-do for you as well?

Hello everyone.
My name's Dora. I'm 24, totally blind from British Columbia, Canada.
I went to Disneyland on Sunday, May 22, 2016 with the family I'm staying with. We were on vacation, so we had planned to go on Sunday, leaving the first 2 days to relax and shop for what we needed in our resort in Palm Springs. That Sunday morning was extremely early. We quickly ate, got ourselves ready, and into the car it was! I was super excited. I had been waiting at least 14 or 15 years to go, I've been wanting to go ever since I was about 8 or 9. Here was my chance. I couldn't believe my dream was finally coming true! We left about 7:42, and got there about an hour later. We stood by the car while the family I was with ate their sandwiches. I was too excited to eat. I wanted to get in right then and there. Of course we had to wait for our shuttle bus to get us. We were taken to the gates, and the guys and us women were split because the guys went to California Adventure Park while us 2 ladies went to Magic Kingdom. I was filled with joy as we went through security and such. We took a restroom break, and off to the park we went!
First, we went to the city hall because I wanted to try the audio description device 1 of my blind friends told me about. We rented it for $25, and we went on our way. As we went through the park, I began to notice there was no sound. I told my home share provider I was with, and so she tried figuring it out, but there was no sound no matter what she did. I was frustrated and slightly disappointed, as I really wanted to see how this thing worked, and I just spent $25 for renting it. Luckily we were able to bring it back, but we'll get to that later. Afterwards, we went to the "It's A Small World," attraction, and waited in line. We got on, and off we went. I heard the song throughout the thing, and i loved it. So many languages, so many different music and sounds that kept me smiling! Just wished I could have seen what everything looked like. After that, we went to Mickey's Tune town. We of course took pictures outside the door, and then went inside. We met Mickey and took more pictures, I I don't think we got good ones as it was dark, apparently. Well, everything to me is dark, as I'm totally blind in both eyes, so to me it wouldn't have mattered. I got hugs and kisses from Mickey, and then we were on our way. Next was Minhy's house. Again, we waited in line and spoke to a Japanese couple behind us. I'm one who loves meeting new people as I go. They were nice. We went inside and got more pictures, and then met Minnie! Got hugs and kisses, and a picture with her as well.
I can't remember for sure but I think it was about this point we decided to head back to city hall and bring the device back and get my money. We waited in line again, and by now my feet were hurting because my sandal had cut into the knuckle of my right big toe, and it was painful throughout the entire day. We put something there to keep it from cutting anymore than it did, and I didn't think to put socks on, which before hand, I didn't think I needed to begin with. I know now though. We got the device back, got my money and they gave me a first time pin which made me happy. We headed back outside and that's where we met Pluto and Donald. Donald was being funny, teasing the lady I was with, telling her to go away with his hand. I couldn't help but laugh of course. After taking pictures and hugs we were on our way to find lunch because by now I was hungry and wanting chicken. We found Plaza Inn and got fried chicken with mashed potatoes and string beans. I couldn't finish my last big chicken breast. I think it was about this point we had another restroom break, then we were off to find the next ride. We rode Whinny The Poo. I found it cute. After that, I went on the carousel, which I found to be too darn short! My home share provider, which was the lady I was with didn't want to go with me so I went by myself and sat by a guy on one of their benches. After that ride, I think that was when we headed to where the parade started and stood there. My feet were starting to hurt again, and there were no benches left. I enjoyed the parade, but I would have enjoyed it more of there were benches to rest my feet. After the parade, we went to Starbucks and got a coffee. It felt good to finally sit down. We sat for a while and drank our coffee.
After that I believe was when we decided to ride Small World again, so we went to the line up for that. We rode it, then went to go find the "Finding Nemo," ride. It was pretty cool for someone who was sighted. After that I believe was when we had another restroom break, and off to find dinner. We had a hot dog, and I had apple slices with mine, which were really good!
By then, it was time to head back to where city hall was, and we went into the disney store, and got a few things. I got a stuffed Mickey, while my home share provider got a post card for someone. We payed for our things, and went back outside and waited near the gates for the guys. we all met up again, and by this time, we were all too tired to stay for the last parade. My feet were extremely sore by this point, and I was practically dying to sit down. We got our shuttle bus back to our rented car we had for our vacation, and headed all the way back to Palm Springs, and back to our resort. We got back, had tea, and by now I was super tired. I got into my PJ's, took my meds and into bed. Off to dreamland I went. That day was a magical one for everyone, and I'm super thankful to the people for taking me, as it was my forever dream to go to the happiest place on earth. I would love to go back to Disneyland again some day soon.
I hope you liked my story, and have yourself a magical day.
