This amazing video was written and composed by Sean Down (of "Rational Compassion" on youtube; goo.gl/qxcCwO) and animated by +Thomas van den Heuvel (of beunenhaas.nl). It takes a look at animal rights issues through the lens of how Laika (the canine forced-cosmonaut) was treated, and then neatly connects this to our contemporary challenges. It is a brilliant piece of advocacy work, and is not to be missed.

WARNING: there's brief GRAPHIC FOOTAGE towards the end of the piece.

What's Wrong With The YULIN Dog Meat Festival?

The +Bite Size Vegan takes a probing look in to the implications and ramifications of the YULIN Dog Meat Festival. What do you think -- is this a reasonable stance to take?

FALLACY: "Vegan Parenting Is Brainwashing"

It must surely be a form of child abuse to instill your own values in your child... Right?!

Of course, parents are responsible for the physical well-being of their children, and they are also responsible for providing ethical guidance. Evidence shows that a plant-based diet is healthy for people of all life stages, including children, so vegan parents are following appropriate nutritional guidelines. Veganism is the philosophical position that using animals for human benefit is unethical, so vegan parents are simply teaching their children compassion through veganism, much as any parent might teach a child to be kind.

These ideas are addressed further on the Your Vegan Fallacy Is site at yvfi.ca/brainwashing/r along with responses by +Marla Rose (a.k.a. the "Vegan Feminist Agitator"), +Bite Size Vegan, +Vegan Street, +Colleen Patrick-Goudreau, +Sean P. O. MacCath-Moran, +YouHippies, +Vegan Sidekick, and +Skool of Vegan.

FALLACY: "Our Early Ancestors Ate Meat"

Humans have been eating meat for as long as there have been humans, so it's all right to continue eating meat, right? o.O

Of course, there are many hypotheses about the food our early ancestors ate, as well as what effect it had on their overall health and the evolutionary impacts of their diets. While it's certainly true that some of them ate other animals, it's also true that they did not always do so, just as it's true that individuals, groups and societies have been thriving on plant-based diets throughout history.

These ideas are addressed further on the Your Vegan Fallacy Is site at yvfi.ca/ancestors/r along with responses by +Bite Size Vegan, +NutritionFacts.org, +Vegan Street, +Sean P. O. MacCath-Moran, +Vegan Sidekick, and +Colleen Patrick-Goudreau.

FALLACY: "I Only Eat Humane Meat"

Granted, it's normal and healthy for people to empathize with the animals they eat, to be concerned about whether or not they are living happy lives and to hope they are slaughtered humanely. However, if it is unethical to harm these animals, then it is more unethical to kill them.

This idea is addressed on Your Vegan Fallacy Is at yvfi.ca/humane/r along with responses by +Bite Size Vegan, +Colleen Patrick-Goudreau, +Vegan Street's "Vegan Feminist Agitator", Bizarro, and myself (i.e. +Sean P. O. MacCath-Moran). If we've missed anything good out there that should be on this page then do let us know about it. =o)

This is all the awesome things! =o)

Also, we're still very interested in picking up translators! Check out yvfi.ca/join-us for more on this.
YourVeganFallacyIs.com Is Officially Launched!

This site is a resource for both vegans and pre-vegans for use in understanding and addressing common fallacies about veganism. There are presently only ten fallacies addressed on the site, but we're adding more and more over time. Over the next week or so we'll be adding some tweaks to the site, setting up translations, working on theming, etc., and after that we're planning on adding a new fallacy each week or so, time allowing.

Speaking of which, would you like to volunteer to be a translator? All we ask is that you be vegan yourself, and that you're a native speaker of the tongue you're translating to, and that you have some higher level formal education in that language. The reasons for this are that all the work on the site is by people who are themselves vegan (in order to preserve the focus of the site's message), and because we wish to ensure that the language on the site is grammatically correct for all languages.

And this brings me to my favorite part of these sorts of messages: Praising people! We'd like to extend a very special thanks to +Constanze N. and +Hans J. for having diligently volunteered their time to create the German fallacy translations before launch, and to +Rózsa Farkas, who is presently contributing her considerable translation skills to complete the Hungarian set. +C.S. MacCath has been working very hard to edit the site's content, and she'll be continuing to do so for all the fallacies. Finally, a super huge thanks goes out to Riventear for creating the bulk of the site's graphics -- be sure to check out her work and support her at riventear.deviantart.com!

But translation work isn't the only way you can help! Do you engage in online advocacy yourself? Then you'll be happy to know that each fallacy on the site is accompanied by an easy to use short url; e.g. the fallacy that Eating Dairy Products Is Not Unethical can be accessed by yourveganfallacyis.com/eating-dairy-products-is-not-unethical or by the short url at yvfi.ca/dairy -- cool huh? This has been set up specifically to ease the use of the site. Further, each fallacy is accompanied by a set of resources (e.g. yvfi.ca/dairy/r) which may be useful for passing on to pre-vegans to help them commit to making the transition. The best part is that by linking people to the site you're not only helping them to understand the problems with their reasoning on that particular issue, but you're also exposing them to answers for all the other fallacies they may harbor! =o)

Which brings up another volunteering opportunity: would you like to help identify vegan resources to use? We're presently featuring work from folks like +Bite Size Vegan, +Colleen Patrick-Goudreau, +Vegan Street (and the Vegan Feminist Agitator), +C.S. MacCath (and her The Vegan Pagan blog series), +vegcomic.com, bizarro.com, theveganscholar.blogspot.ca, thevegantruth.blogspot.ca, and others -- but this is not enough, and we need your help to find more!! Each of these knowledge sources has more gems waiting to be linked to from YVFI.ca, and there are innumerable other vegan-centric projects we need to bring into the fold. If this is something that interests you, then we have a forum set specifically for discussing such things -- won't you join us there?

To volunteer, just create your account at yourveganfallacyis.com/user/register, verify your email, take a look at the site, and let us know what you'd like to do. =o)

Pagan Perspectives On Saving Animals

In this latest entry of the Vegan Pagan series of articles, +C.S. MacCath explores the intersection between pantheism and our shared love of animals. WARNING: Some of the content in this article can be hard to read, but it's well worth it (IMHO).

Community Cross Pollination

I very much value both the Vegan and the YLOVE1 communities. Each of them do their part to contribute to different facets of the conversation on our shared love of animals, and my G+ experience on the whole is greatly enriched by both. =o)
