A very good review of Tristiania's musical stlye!
'A Sequel of Decay' is Tristania's very unique track on the album 'Beyond the Veil' that's predominantly a mix of symphonic metal and 90's doom metal influenced Gothic metal. It begins with dark ambient music followed by Vibeke Stene's operatic vocals and Pete Johanson's (from Sins of Thy Beloved) violin. This album has early Tristania's signature style of using three different types of vocals; Vibeke Stene's spinto-soprano vocals, Osten Borgey's deep baritone vocals in a style that is usually used in goth rock music and Morten Veland's Black metal style shrieks to give haunting atmosphere to the music. In this particular track though, Morten's unclean vocals are toned down and more softer and short lived whereas Osten's baritone vocals are more dominant. The guitars aren't heavy but very melodic and it also utilizes keyboards for gloomy atmosphere of the music. It shares music structure, for the major part with goth rock than doom metal just like Tristania's Angellore from Widow's Weeds (1996). Morten is a fan of goth rock bands like Sisters of Mercy and The Fields of the Nephilim and their influence is very visible on this track and Angellore. But like most Tristania's music, 'A Sequel of Decay' has dark poetic lyrics that are very ambiguous and left to the listeners for interpretation. Angellore along with this track are my all-time favorite amongst Tristania's beautiful music when they were in their golden era.

For a dream I once desired
I bequeth my sorrow and I regret to thee
Cannot cross so wide sea"
