All the best for New Year's Eve Ausdroiders! Other than Google Play music's solution has anyone found another streaming service that is counting down the top songs for 2016?

Too many communication apps that aren't great
Duo for whatever reason stopped working. My dad couldn't hear me on his iPhone. Back to hangouts.

Duo was cool because it is so easy. It's the first app I could get my dad to download install and use to call me by writing an email....buttttt....for the past couple weeks he couldn't get the sound to work.

Hangouts is still the closest...

Is this new? I don't remember the "rediscover this day" notifications ever showing me a photo.

Some of those things that Google suggests to you via that feature are just simply fantastic. The other day I get a message from Google Photos saying "They grow up so fast". I click on it and it had figured out that it was one of my daughters' birthday (I guess through all the birthday photos or them being in the google family plan or whatever). There was a link to a short video clip that showed key pictures of that daughter from birth (well, a few months old) moving through the years ending a few days prior to her birthday this year. It was a great video too!

And PS: that feature can be turned on and off in the settings

Thought this was interesting:

Seems Pixels (and maybe other devices) can now backup/restore SMS - though not MMS, judging by the data size.
Dan Goodes originally shared:

Google Drive now has a section that gives you access to what devices/apps use the service for backing up (note that the backup functionality itself isn't new - but access to it from the Drive UI is).

What's really interesting is that it seems, on the Pixel/7.1.1 at least, it also backs up SMS. Judging by the size, MMS is not included, but it seems we're finally going to be able to restore SMS when restoring to a new or reinstalled device.

Hey +Duncan Jaffrey I'm sure you've noticed as well, but Google seems to be getting all whimsical in Android Pay again with Holiday/Christmas whimsy.

Didn't get a screenshot, not quick enough.

Hi guys. I've been investigating options for buying the Oneplus 3T in Australia, and +Gunnar Haid suggested I post my findings here. Here they are, for what it's worth. I'd be interested to hear your thoughts and suggestions. At the moment, I'm thinking I'll get a friend in Europe to buy and ship it for me. I have a few options over there.

I looked at all the usual options (e.g. DWI, AliExpress), but most get really bad reviews. There were two that had pretty good reviews: DHgate and Vickmall. I contacted DHgate chat support and asked about the different variants of the phone, and the rep obviously didn't understand me, and didn't answer my questions at all. I sent a Skype message to Vickmall and am awaiting a response. In the meantime, however, I contacted Oneplus's own chat support, and they were VERY helpful. Here's a rundown, in case you're interested:

Oneplus: "Currently we only ship to these countries and regions: United States, Sweden, Denmark, Netherlands, United Kingdom, Spain, Germany, France, Italy, Finland, Belgium, Austria, Canada, Hong Kong, and Portugal, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, India and Indonesia. If your country isn't supported yet, you are still welcome to have a friend or family member buy one for you from one of our first launch countries. The device will have the same warranty as the warranty policy in the country it was bought in, however please note that in the event of repairs or returns, you will have to cover shipping and handling costs yourself..."

Me: "Do you plan to ship to Australia soon?"

Oneplus: "Yes it's part of oneplus pla to ship in Ausralia, however right now we can't provide any time frame if when this can be happen."

Me: "Will the 3T work on Telstra in Australia?"

Oneplus: "The telstra will works fine from 2G-3G, and not so good with 4GLTE."

Me: "And that's because of the absence of band 28?"

Oneplus: "Probably yes. But still it works with 2G and 3G."

NOTE: I checked my phone last night, and it's not actually using LTE anyway. It's set to "WCDMA (preferred)/GSM" and I haven't noticed. I don't do a lot of downloading that requires high speed when off wifi.

Me: "I understand there are 3 variants: American, Chinese, and Europe/Asia(which includes HK and Australia). Is this correct, and if so, what's the difference?"

Oneplus: "You need to choose which regions you are sothat your phone will really best works. I will suggest you to purchase European since you have friend in UK and Romania. European countries can't place an order in US."

Me: "Thanks. But are you recommending the European version because of convenience for me or because it will function best with Australian carriers?"

Oneplus: "Yes, upon checking here this is the version which is compatible with the network carrier you have."

+Scott Plowman yeah, no dramas with band 28, I think. I know I've seen 4G pop up on my phone in the past, but at least since my last reset, it's been on 3G only.

I ended up buying and having it sent to a friend in Germany. He received it a couple of days ago and will be shipping to me today or tomorrow. Very excited! :-)

I'm in the market for a 40-inch 4K TV. Has anyone had much to do with Hisense and if so what are they like? This particular model doesn't do HDR but it's for a bedroom so I don't really want to go any bigger than 40-inch.

My S7 edge received the December security patch last night before my Pixel which I'm still waiting for 7.1.1. I realise its only running 6.0.1 but Samsung is doing a good job keeping these up to date.

Been hoping Gboard would come to Android for a while. I may be wrong, but searching from within the keyboard seems incredibly useful. I'm very used to SwiftKey however, and in quick tests I'm not sure Google is as good at corrections, but I'll give it a go.

It's been a day or so and I'm coming around on this. The non-everywhere predictions will take some getting used to but I think I'll roll with Gboard from here on out. I've been looking for a reason to stop using SwiftKey since Microsoft acquired it.

Anyone else have the Google app with the separate sections for upcoming events and news? I don't like it. I preferred it all being in one column.
