Hello 817 owners. I've got a new video up showing his to configure the 817 with WSJT-X for a portable WSPR kit. In this video we are setting up WSJT-X to run a bidirectional, man-portable WSPR Beacon Test Kit. We'll use WSJT-X, a Yaesu FT-817ND, the ZLP MiniProSC, setting it all up on Ubuntu Linux.

The background of this video started last year in October 2016 with a blog post The idea was to utilise both transmission and receive for WSPR testing, comparisons and validation of various antenna types and configurations. Here we are several months later, making a tutorial, setting up WSJT-X and the rest of the system.

With the popularity of WSPR and new products like the WSPRlite and the DXplorer website, WSPR-Pi, ... it's also nice to remind operators that WSPR is still possible using the gear they already have, while it's sitting idle. Your PSK, Olivia, Contestia, or FSQ system is perfectly capable of handling WSPR, JT65, JT9, or any of the other K1JT modes on WSPR-X.

I use WSPR beacons as a test tool for comparing various antennas and unique configurations. Although WSPR results are not directly comparable to other digital modes, it is still an excellent way to understand the differences between antenna systems.

Hello Operators.
I just posted a new video for the Yaesu FT-817ND and FLDigi on Ubuntu Linux.
In this video we setup the ZLP MiniProSC audio interface on the Yaesu FT-817ND and FLDigi on Ubuntu Linux. The guide covers connections, rig settings, USB port/bus assignment, selecting ports in FLDigi, PTT settings, and audio level controls. The guide is also valid for the SignaLink USB audio interface.

This is the fourth video in the Ultra Portable Digital comms series. The series will continue forward with other configuration guides, and slowly shift into more pragmatic episodes covering specific digital modes and applications.

Working FM repeaters with my FT-817 is now pleasant. I found using my Nescaf filter works wonders! And I seem to be pushing out around 8W, according to my RS-40 power.SWR meter.

Yet another 817 battery pack
Finally put together a batt-pack for the FT-817. I decided on simple and will be charging the 3400mAh cells on my solar recharging station I’m working on for the house in grid down conditions. This pack stays with my HF “Go Kit” (next post) I keep in my…

I have never been able to figure out what the FST function is or does on the stock standard MH-31 microphone. Any ideas?
