When should you leave your Oly/Panny at home?

I never thought I would ever do this, but on my trip to New York I have started to leave the cameras in the hotel room safe. I deliberately brought a Panasonic GF8 with me for convenience, however even that is starting to become a little inconvenient. With heightened security and cloakroom checks it is a lot easier to travel without a traditional bag full of stuff photographic or otherwise (maybe just one of those fold up reusable bags for souvenirs).

Today I had planned to visit art galleries and museums. Instead of taking the GF8 I just took my smartphone. I rarely get good photos at these places anyway. The photographer is thwarted by tricky lighting, photographically unfriendly subjects, reflective glass; the list goes on. Smartphones usually have a 28mm equivalent lens and a digital zoom that will allow for reasonable shots to use online. I found while the images will not win any prizes, they will serve well as a visual notebook of the places I visited. Even shots in dark places are usable if you don't pixel peep.

I will still be bringing out both the Panasonic GF8 and an old G2 (that I brought for airshows) but only when convenient.

Welcome aboard +Lars Stokholm and +David Munns to our friends group here. I've worked with these gentlemen helping people on cameras and photography on the blue network. David has links to Olympus Europe, Lars is from Scandinavia and has extensive experience with our gear.

Doctor, I have a problem, somehow my level indicators aren't helping me with this scene....
You know, I really hesitate showing this image. After all the ribbing I've given +Trace McLean and +May Ng in years past, I'm really on a #slant

+Peter Forsgård has made a two part video on Video Making with the OM-D E-M1 Mark 2 - Panasonic grabs the stage because they have been video focussed and Olympus has been stills but slowly Olympus has putting video features. Support and traning knowledge of Olympus video making is scarce though and Peter has done good work.

It took a long time to get my thoughts down on paper, but the Panasonic Leica DG Vario-Elmair 8-18mm f2.8-4 is a superb addition to the ever expanding m4/3 lens line.

A photo from last weekend, not bad for 2 seconds hand held

Giving the Panasonic 25mm f1.7 a run. It's possibly the best value lens you can get for MFT.
