Hi, I have a quick question. I never really thought and looked up on it. The GTX 1080 strix has an 8pin + 6pin. I have an EVGA power supply not sure if the same with the rest since I only bought EVGA psu's but they have a power connector with 8+6 pin that is in one power line that has a dongle at at the end which is the 6pin. I dont like how it looks so i was wondering if you can have a 2 power lines from psu to gpu? One 8pin and one 6pin instead of 1 power line of 8+6.

Yeah thanks. This will be my second. My First is practically the same but with only 1 pump and 1 gtx 1080. But that has a 850 watt PSU cause I was paranoid. So I guess I overkilled the PSU on that one lol

How do I contact Asus about a video I want to re-post? Was originally posted by Asus PCDIY. Overclocking 970/980. Most in depth and comprehensive video based OC guide I've seen and still share to this day, until it was removed along with PC DIY channel. I would like to share/post that video. How do I go about that? Needing to educated the masses that still use those cards. I help daily over at Tom's Hardware. That site took a piece of ammunition away that I have used in shooting down problems. Please give it back or allow me permission to post it again as an educational piece. I will obviously let them know, as the video will, that the video is not my work. I will give credit where it is due. It will only serve to educate and as an added benefit spread the Awesomeness that is Asus.

Hi,

Is it normal to have cold dual boots? Every time I turn on the rig for the first time it shuts itself off for 2-5s then I have to push the power button again and turns on normally. This thing only happens when the PC is off for a long time i.e overnight or when I switch off the PSU. The rig is just a week old, so I'm wondering if there are some issues on my hardware.

specs:
i7 6700k
maximus viii formula
gtx 1080 strix
gskill trident z 16gb 3200
p860 psu

Any help would be gladly appreciated. Cheers

Thanks for the info, is there a diagnostic tool inside the bios? I ran benchmarks and stress tests on this everything seems to be working fine except for the dual boot issue.

You can easily spend 400 and get better than ps4 but you might have to make some compromises. Are you gaming in the bedroom/office or on your TV in the living room?

I'd reader have a light intensity switch or slider added. I have mine set to show the temperature and the green and yellow are very bright. I hope ASUS hear us @ J. J.

Back into the WW top 100 (#71) 4790K/1x980ti ranks in 3DMark Firestrike! Also puts me in the upper 35% of 6700k/1080 scores.

Took some extreme BIOS tweaking on my Asus ROG Maximus VII Formula, but I got my 4790K up to 5.1Ghz! I don't think it would have been possible without the granular settings Asus offers in the BIOS and the overall quality of the board. Next step, 5.2Ghz.

Let's also make that in the top 20 (4790K/980 Ti) for Time Spy (http://www.3dmark.com/spy/292722) and FS Ultra (http://www.3dmark.com/fs/9813338)

I'm really about done with Asus as a company, my gpu crashed over a month ago and I sent it in for repairs and after a month later still no RMA update on my case, this is really sad and unacceptable, I call every day only to hear the same "wait 24 to 48 hours". I really had higher expectations for this company only to be let down and feel cheated and robbed by them.

About this community

PC builders are some of the most inviting elitists you’ll ever meet. As oxymoronic as that might sound, ask any PC builder if they build their own PCs, and 9 times out of 10, they’ll respond with a resounding “Hell yes I build my own PC! Want me to show you how?” It is out of this mentality that the PCDIY initiative was born. PCDIY is about experienced builders coming together with novice builders and would-be builders to collaborate, show off and educate one another. Whether you’re looking to replace or supplement your notebook with a desktop PC for the first time, or have been building since 8088 or 486 days, there’s something for you here.

Hello, I recently built a brand new awesome gaming PC, but I couldn't get my DDR 4 Memory to the current overclocking which is 4000mhz. I've tried enabling XMP on my motherboard but it says fail to overclock once I save it and exited the bios. This is my current setup.

Intel i7 6700k
Motherboard: ASUS z170 sabertooth white
cooler: Kraken x61
Ram: Galax DDR4 4000mhz overclocked
GPU: Galax gtx 1080 HOF
PSU: Evga 1000w G2
SSD: SAMSUNG 950 PRO M.2 512GB
Case: Corsair Graphite Series 760T White

I also moved the CPU Over Voltage jumper to enable to see if that would help but still nothing. I will try to get a picture of what the message shows when I try to enable XMP

Thanks so much!

My baby lol.

Does anyone know why the gputweak clock speed is less than the recorded/actual clock speed?

+Patrick Schwind The Max clock reached was 2114MHz in that run, but it's set to 1974MHz.

Hi guys, I finally finished my first water cooled pc and I think I ran into a problem. Hope you guys can help me. So I have a ASUS Maximus VIII Formula with i7 6700k and a GTX 1080 Strix in the built. As soon as I first turn it on. Nothing comes out of the monitor. No signal. Q code is 99. I tried looking for this problem and still have not found an answer. Please help. Thanks

I just received this notification.

Glad to know your build is up an running. I just completed another build with I6700K Maximus 8 Hero Alpha, Samsung 850 EVO 500GB SSD. Had similar issues with Qcode 99 and several others.

PC powered on but no video from IGPU or DGPU and no POST. MOBO hdd led stayed on wirh QCODE = IDE initialization error. PC ENTERED into a cycle of restarts and then power off. Ram QCode errors too during unsuccessful POST.

Where to begin but to start all over. I Changed monitors, G.Skill ram not on QVL but on G.Skill's approved MOBO list, etc.

Still no video from IGPU. So reconnected DGPU. No change.

Changed HDMI cable and reconnected to IGPU. Got video but no boot. Hmmmm. Only way to power on to attempt to get back into bios was MOBO safe boot button with CLR CMOS.

Solution: PSU VGA power connector though it clicked when connected was not making contact. Removed the Samsung USB 3.0 the Bios was detecting as a raid setup configuration with Samsung 850 EVo Ssd and as mentioned a new HDMI cable.

I reinstalled original G.Skill Trident Z 4x4GB 3200mhz ram. CPU and Ram Overclocks so easy and system is VERY stable.

Only system hangups have been Win 10 Pro encounter errors requiring Win restarts.

I've been building PCs over 20 years and only had one bad Asus MOBO. Even a seasoned builder who was assembling late at night assumed VGA power connector made contact because it clicked. Not all HDMI cables(Amazon) are created equal and I should have known better than to connect same brand USB 3.0 drive during setup.

Enjoy your new build.

The new ASUS Z170 PRO GAMING AURA. Looking to build a midrange Z170 & Skylake gaming PC but not compromise on features, functions or aesthetics, this board should be at the top of your list.

Is there any way you can/will release basic simple 3D print template for i/o plastic cover (over ports (not i/s shield)) for this motherboard? It could be mounted with two screws around the i/ports. That would be best addon for this board, it will look cleaner. Thanks! :)
