A 21-Year-Old College Student Is About To Become The Youngest Member Of The Mississippi House

Tulane University senior Jeramey Anderson turns 22 on Friday — the same day he will be sworn into the Mississippi House of Representatives, making him the youngest member of the legislative body.

The Tulane student won the seat after a general election against the candidate backed by the local Democratic Party, even though Anderson had led the Democratic primary. Anderson took 60% of the vote in Tuesday’s election, the Sun Herald reports

Today's Youth Voters Came All Out.

New voters - Another Group Who Hate the Republicans

Conservatives were fearful that the minds of America's youth (that is, those born in 1980 and after) would be infiltrated by secular, liberal ideology. At the fundamental level of political allegiance, they were right: the great majority of those born in 1980 or after are strongly Democratic-leaning. [Duh!]

The president's anchor among age groups in both 2008 and 2012 was young voters. He won 66% of the votes of 18-24 and 25-29 year-olds in 2008. That percentage shrunk, as he lost support nationwide, to 60% among 25-29 year-olds in 2012 – though this was still more than among any other age group. Importantly, for the long-term Democratic coalition, there was no sign in the exit polls that the Democratic appeal for young voters was abating among those who turned 18 over the past four years: those 18-24 year-old were just as likely to support the president as the 25-29 year-olds.

And those who turned 30 over the past four years have maintained their Democratic allegiance from 2008. The conventional wisdom is that people become more conservative as they age. This isn't borne out in the research, and 2012 is no exception. The only age group whose vote increased for Obama from 2008 to 2012 was 30-39 year-olds, as those who had formerly been 25-29 years old moved into 30-39 year-old age cohort.

VOTE 2016 and AFRICAN-AMERICANS.  A Must-Read! Real & Raw.

VOTE 2016 and African-Americans

Will You Be Voting?

Let Me Give You Some Real and Raw Food-For-Thought.

Do you realize how many black people sacrificed their lives in order for us to be able to vote today? Let me take you back for a minute.

Black people were constantly threatened. Black people were beaten and/or killed. Dogs were turned loose on us. Black people were spat on. Sprayed with water hoses. Arrested and thrown in jail “just because.” Back then, people in authority and white supremacy pumped SO much fear into black people. That was the norm. To keep us living in fear. To keep us suppressed, depressed, and oppressed.

So that’s why I just don’t understand why some black people don’t take voting seriously? Why won’t you register and vote? Do you NOT understand the power of your vote? Do you NOT understand what we’re up against? Do you NOT understand that if you don’t vote, the crap that you’re dealing with won’t change?

Your vote matters! You’ve got to understand that. Stop making excuses and get registered. Get out and vote. Things will NOT change by you running off at the mouth complaining. Things can only change if you vote.

Just imagine! What if, today, blacks couldn’t vote? Do you realize that we’d most likely still be in slavery? Being hung, beaten, raped, murdered, picking cotton, and doing all sorts of labor for FREE. It’s time to wake up! Vote because you have an obligation to do so. And teach your children and grandchildren the importance of voting. This isn’t a game! This is real!

You’ve got to do your part. Nobody should have to beg or coerce you to vote. It just doesn’t make any sense. After all that we as black people have been through, why wouldn’t you get your behind out there and vote?

If you haven’t registered yet, get registered. If you don’t know how, ask. If you don’t know where you need to go, ask. If you have ANY questions, just ask for help. It’s that simple.

Educate yourselves on the issues at hand. Make sure that you vote in your local, general, and primary elections. These are all very important! You should care about what’s going on in your community and state. Be informed! If you don’t vote, you can’t complain.

What’s going on in your neighborhood? Are the schools great? Are there ample activities and programs for the youth? The people that are elected in your city, are they doing their job? Or is it time for a change? There are so many things that you should be asking yourself. I’ll say it again: Your vote is way more powerful than you think.

Your vote matters and you do too! Please, get out and vote. It’s the right thing to do. Don’t be lazy. Don’t make excuses. Don’t talk yourself out of it. Just get it done!
