Sawadee Krap ( Greeting in Thai). I would like to welcome you to the land of smiles. Thailand is known for the land of smiles because it is believed that a smile can change another persons day. In thai they call it "Greng Jai". The meaning of Greng Jai is to take other in consideration and be strong in will not to give in to a problem or obstacle. The meaning of this word and implementation of it changed my life in a way. So when someone smiles at you it does not mean they are happy or have a good day but to try and make your day better but in the same sense can it be confusing because you never know when someone is angry or sad as they will never show it. I came to Thailand in April 2012 to see what Thailand has to offer in terms of life, culture and vacation. With my first arrival in Bangkok I got quite a fright because it was absolutely not what I expected. The weather was very hot and humid and the city had a bit of a smell to it and I thought to myself if this is Thailand I want to go home. But with closer inspection and a few sight seeing tours I forgot about the smell and weather. Everything in Thailand is unique in its own way. It does not matter if you are a tourist or local. There is an unnoticeable system in place regarding life in Thailand hence the word "Greng Jai". The longer I stayed in Thailand the more it grew on me. At last I realized why so many people would want to travel and tour in Thailand and even retire here. Thailand might be one of the worlds best tourist destinations in my opinion. So many people come to Thailand to go to the islands or up north to Chiang Mai or Chiang Rai but in between is a gem or two of a city, village or attraction that is worth a visit or even a post or two.. Places that people might miss because it has never been mentioned or seen. And the best of it all is that you pay local prices. Within Destination Thailand I will try and show some of my personal referrals to places where I have been to the most popular places like the James Bond island (Phuket). www.destination-thailand.com
