Create Movies From Your Panoramic Photos with Instapan

Panoramic photos are an awesome capability of your iPhone, but if you like sharing on Instagram, that super-wide photo looks pretty crappy in a square box. Instagram is a very simple app that makes panning movie of your panoramic, exactly to Instagram specs. Perfect!

WPPI — mylio; A Contender to Replace Aperture?

From the show floor at WPPI 2015 in Las Vegas… mylio is an impressive app/service that allows you to manage and edit your photos from nearly any device, on multiple platforms. It syncs metadata and adjustment edits virtually instantly, and with a little growth, could seriously give apps like Lightroom a run for its money.

I gave mylio a trial when it was released but unfortunately, as often as I tried, it failed to sync my devices correctly. Lots of blank thumbnails on my iPhone and iPad. Hopefully, if you try it, your mileage will be better. It's a cool idea.

Lightroom Photo Importing Through Aperture Eyes

Many Aperture users are moving to Lightroom. I’m one of them. How does Lightroom’s photo import features measure up to what we’re accustomed to in Aperture?

Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 6 Leaked?

According to several rumor sites, Adobe Photoshop Lightroom version 6 has been leaked by retail stores in France and Australia for a March 9th, 2015 release date. The primary feature I’m seeing excitement around is GPU acceleration.

I wonder if this will be a GA release or a beta release? If I recall correctly, Adobe released LR5 beta late winter and took it GA a couple of months later in late spring or early summer.

Does anyone think Photos will eventually use selective adjustments? I noticed iPhoto for iOS has selective adjustments so why not Photos in the future? This won't be enough for everyone but will be a big tick for me.

Subtle, Adjustable Filters in "Litely" by Litely LLC

Litely is a clever, easy to use and often beautiful iOS app that you’ll enjoy as an alternative to the built-in Photos app for many common adjustments and mild effects.

Really Smart Photos with OnOne and Aperture

The advantage of Aperture’s Round Trip is that it keeps all your work packaged up neatly in an easy-to-handle Library. One of the disadvantages is that many of the plug-ins that work with Aperture’s Library also fix their results permanently upon exit. If you wish to go back and tweak later, you’re stuck with starting over with your last Aperture version. The latest version of onOne Software’s Perfect Photo Suite 9 aims to address that.

WPPI — Mastin Labs Ilford B&W, Fuji Pro, and Portra Lightroom Presets

From the show floor at WPPI 2015 in Las Vegas… Mastin Labs Lightroom presets are beautiful, but expensive. They go a long way to mimic true film looks, and they certainly do look impressive. Fortunately there’s a WPPI discount that is apparently the best they’ve ever offered.

Now Anyone Can Download Photos for OS X Beta with OS X 10.10.3 Beta — For Free

Want to get your hands on the new Photos.app for OS X? Now’s your chance—for free. Apple has release a public beta of OS X 10.10.3, and anyone can try it out. Just be sure not to do this on your primary/only system, m’kay?

Lightroom Keywords Through Aperture Eyes

With Aperture no longer being developed and OS X Photos not making muster for professionals and advanced users, many of us are looking at Lightroom. How does Lightroom’s keyword tagging capability stack up to Aperture?

For one, you can't add keyword while editing - different module. And switching modules takes time, even on fast systems. I may not be disciplined enough, but often enough I add keyword while editing. Lightroom is quite limiting because of it's modularity. Capture One is much closer to Aperture from that angle.

The Future of The Photos Expert is PhotoApps.Expert

With Photos for OS X now a known commodity, this site has to change again. I wish I could avoid it but this is inevitable. Read on to see what that means.

Geotagging App "GeoTagr" Updated for iOS 8; Embed GPS Without Duplicating Photo

If you’re a GeoTagr user (and if not, now’s a great time to try it), you’ll love this update. Now when adding GPS data to your photos, the OS no longer has to duplicate every photo to do it.

Great Spot Retouching in "Photo Editor+" by Axiem

One of my most missed features from iPhoto for iOS is the retouching brush. Often I want to remove a little blemish from a photo, and Photos for iOS doesn’t have this. I recently discovered “Photo Editor+” by Axiom, and while it’s a complete editing tool, the retouching brush is the one thing I want to focus on here.

How to Sort Photos in the Import Window in Aperture 3

Have you ever scratched your head at what you’re seeing in the import dialog… positive you have newer work than what’s there, or that the image on the bottom simply isn’t the most recent photo you shot? Read on to see how to sort the images on your card in the import window.

Should I Reprocess That RAW File?

The Aperture 3.6 release on OS X Yosemite brought with it a new RAW processing engine. Depending on your camera, you may have a Reprocess button in the Adjustments pane of the Inspector. Think twice before blindly clicking it.
